Middle Atlantic Rack Shelves & Drawers | Vented, Sliding & Utility (212 products)

Middle Atlantic Rack Shelves & Drawers

Every shelf a rack needs — utility, vented, sliding, universal-pattern, custom-cut and writing shelves.

Most of what goes into an AV rack is not rack-mountable. Streaming boxes, amplifiers with no ears, network appliances, cameras, cable boxes and laptops all have to sit on something, and this is that something. Middle Atlantic's shelf line runs from the basic U1 and U2 utility shelves through U1V and U2V vented versions, UMS universal-mounting-pattern shelves, UFA device-mounting shelves with optional faceplates, RSH custom-cut rackshelf enclosures machined for specific devices, SS sliding shelves, VSA heavy-duty telescoping shelves, and WS writing shelves for rack rows that double as work surfaces.

Shelf Families in This Collection

  • U Series Utility Shelves — U1, U2 and deeper solid shelves; U1V and U2V vented versions for warm devices.
  • UMS Universal Mounting Shelves — universal hole pattern in multiple depths, with partial blank panel kits.
  • UFA Device Mounting Shelves — 8" deep rackshelves with optional 1 RU and 2 RU faceplates for a finished front.
  • RSH Custom Rackshelf Enclosures — shelves machined and branded for specific devices, including AV amplifier and streaming hardware.
  • SS Sliding Shelves — pull-out shelves for keyboards, laptops and devices that need front access.
  • VSA Telescoping Shelves — heavy-duty adjustable-depth shelves supported front and rear.
  • WS Writing Shelves — fold-down and fixed work surfaces sized for MRK and WRK rack bays.

Why It Matters Which Shelf You Pick

  • Vented shelves prevent heat pooling under devices with bottom or side intakes
  • Universal-pattern shelves let you bolt a device down instead of relying on gravity and velcro
  • Two-post front-only shelves save depth; four-post supported shelves carry real weight
  • Faceplate options close the rack front so the elevation looks finished and airflow stays managed
  • Sliding and telescoping shelves give front access without unracking anything
  • Custom RSH enclosures hold specific devices securely and look deliberate rather than improvised

Typical Applications

  • Streaming devices, media players and signage players in AV racks
  • Amplifiers, DSPs and network appliances that ship without rack ears
  • Control-room and monitoring positions needing a work surface
  • Keyboards, laptops and service positions inside the rack
  • Camera, codec and conferencing hardware in head-end racks

UMS universal Front rails Mixed Bolting devices down
UFA with faceplate Front rails Mixed Finished rack front
VSA telescoping Front and rear Vented Heavy equipment
SS sliding Front rails Solid Keyboards, service access

Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight can a rack shelf hold?

A front-supported utility shelf typically carries tens of pounds; a four-post telescoping VSA shelf carries substantially more because the load is shared front and rear. Always check the published rating, and for anything heavy choose a shelf supported at both ends.

Vented or solid?

Vented, unless you have a reason not to. Most small AV devices pull air through the bottom or sides, and a solid shelf directly under a warm device traps that air. Solid shelves are for cool-running gear or where you want a clean work surface.

What is a universal mounting shelf?

A UMS shelf has a grid of mounting holes so you can bolt a device to the shelf rather than letting it sit loose. In a rack that gets moved, or a rack in a public space, that is the difference between an installed system and a pile of boxes.

How deep a shelf do I need?

Measure the device including its connectors, then add clearance for the cable bend. Shelf depths from about 5.5" to 16" and beyond are available — do not choose a shelf that leaves the connectors hanging past its edge.

Can I get a shelf cut for a specific device?

Yes — the RSH custom rackshelf enclosures are machined for particular products, and Middle Atlantic offers custom shelf work. If you do not see the device you need, ask and we will check current availability.
