Quick answer

What is university AV integration?

University AV integration is the design, installation, programming, and support of the audiovisual systems across a campus: classrooms, lecture halls, hybrid and HyFlex rooms, active learning spaces, labs, and event venues, built to a shared standard that central IT can monitor and support. Creation Networks delivers this for universities and colleges nationwide, with CTS-D certified engineers, per-room control, and ADA assistive listening designed into every teaching space.

California State University and University of California campuses can purchase through our six active CMAS cooperative purchasing contracts, and other institutions can buy by direct purchase order or competitive quote. See how universities buy AV, or request a quote.

University AV Integration for Hundreds of Rooms and a Small Support Team

A university may have two hundred classrooms and four technicians. The AV design either scales to that ratio or it does not survive its second semester.

Higher education AV is a scale problem more than a technology problem. The equipment is well understood. What differs is that every room serves dozens of instructors a week, the building stock ranges from historic halls to new construction, and capture, hybrid delivery, and accessibility are expected in every room rather than a few showcase spaces.

We solve it with room tiers and repetition. We sort your rooms into a small number of types, define one design for each, and replicate it, with remote monitoring reporting every room's health to a central dashboard. We have applied this at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, where we refreshed an eight-year-old lecture classroom system that suffered frequent failures, and at Touro University, where we installed a roughly 220-inch LED video wall in Landers Hall.

Scale

How Do Universities Standardize AV Across Hundreds of Rooms?

Standardization at university scale has four parts: room tiers, a common control platform, networked signal distribution where it pays off, and central monitoring. Tiers keep the number of designs to a handful. A common control platform, Crestron or Extron, gives faculty one interface and gives your team one programming standard to maintain.

For larger buildings and venues, AV over IP such as Crestron DM NVX or Extron NAV moves video over the campus network and lets rooms share sources and combine. Monitoring ties it together, so a failed projector or dead microphone is a ticket before the first lecture. See AV control and DSP programming and Clarity remote monitoring.

Hybrid & Accessibility

What Must University AV Do for Hybrid Teaching and Accessibility?

Universities now serve in-person, remote, and recorded audiences in the same course, and every one of them has to be able to hear and follow it.

That means ceiling microphone coverage and echo cancellation for hybrid rooms, captioning built into the capture workflow, assistive listening sized by seating capacity under the 2010 ADA Standards, and control interfaces that meet Section 508. We design these at schematic, so they are part of the room standard rather than a retrofit after a complaint.

Procurement

How Do Universities Buy AV Integration?

Most universities buy through a competitive solicitation, a cooperative contract, or a direct purchase order, depending on size and the funding source.

Purchasing path What it is Available to you
CMAS cooperative purchasing Six active California contracts, usable by California agencies, districts, CSU, and UC without a new solicitation. Yes — CA, CSU & UC
Competitive RFP or quote We respond to solicitations and provide design-build or design-assist services. Yes
Direct purchase order Purchase orders from qualified institutions, with TAA-compliant product supply. Yes
NASPO, Sourcewell, OMNIA, TIPS We do not hold awards on these cooperatives and will say so up front. Not held

University AV FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — University AV Integration

Answers to the questions campus AV managers, instructional technology directors, and facilities teams ask most often about university AV design, standards, and procurement. Written by our CTS-D certified AV design engineers.

What AV systems do universities need?

Teaching classrooms, lecture halls, HyFlex rooms, lecture capture, active learning spaces, clinical and lab spaces, auditoriums, event venues, and campus signage. See our education AV hub.

How do you standardize AV across a university campus?

We sort rooms into a few tiers, build one design per tier on a common control platform, add AV over IP where it pays off, and tie everything to central monitoring. Classroom AV systems.

Can you refresh older lecture hall systems without replacing everything?

Often yes. At the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine we refreshed an eight-year-old system with new projection, switching, control, audio processing, and wireless microphones. Read the case study.

Do you support HyFlex and hybrid teaching?

Yes. We design instructor tracking, ceiling microphones, remote student displays, and one-touch control. HyFlex classroom technology.

Does lecture capture work with Panopto, Kaltura, Echo360, or YuJa?

We design capture hardware and scheduling to feed the platform your campus already licenses. Lecture capture systems.

How do you handle ADA requirements on campus?
