Middle Atlantic Rack Doors, Side Panels & Security

Solid, vented, perforated and plexi doors, side panels and lock kits — the parts that close a rack in.

A rack frame is only half a rack. What you put on the front, back and sides determines whether it is secure, whether it stays cool, how much noise reaches the room and what it looks like. This collection holds the full range of Middle Atlantic front doors (solid, vented, perforated and plexi), rear doors for BGR, ERK, WRK and DRK frames, side panels for gangable and stand-alone racks, and lock kits for cabinets, credenzas and furniture frames.

What Is in This Collection

  • Solid Front Doors — BFD and DO series for maximum noise containment and a closed appearance.
  • Vented & Perforated Front Doors — BVFD, DLVFD and perforated doors that pass air while staying secure.
  • Plexi Front Doors — clear doors where equipment status LEDs must stay visible.
  • Rear Doors — solid, vented and perforated rear doors for BGR, ERK, WRK, MW and DRK frames.
  • Side Panels — BSPN, SPNG and SP series pairs for gangable rows and stand-alone racks.
  • Lock Kits & Handles — keyed lock kits for racks, cabinets and credenza frames.

What the Door Choice Actually Decides

  • Security — a lockable front door is frequently a written requirement, not a preference
  • Cooling — door open area sets how much air can enter or leave the rack front
  • Noise — a solid door contains fan and drive noise in occupied rooms
  • Visibility — plexi doors keep status LEDs readable without opening the rack
  • Dust — solid doors and side panels keep debris out in harsh environments
  • Appearance — in a boardroom or lobby the rack is furniture, and the door is what people see

Typical Applications

  • Boardrooms and lobbies where the rack is visible and must be quiet
  • Schools, healthcare and government rooms with locked-equipment requirements
  • Warm equipment rooms needing maximum door open area
  • Control rooms where equipment status must be visible at a glance
  • Gangable rack rows needing side panels only at the row ends

Choosing a Door

Door Type Airflow Noise Best Fit
Solid None through door Best containment Quiet rooms, cool loads
Vented Moderate Good General purpose
Perforated High Least containment Warm equipment rooms
Plexi None through door Good Status visibility

Frequently Asked Questions

Solid, vented or perforated — how do I choose?

Work from the heat load first. A rack with amplifiers, UPS units or matrix switchers wants a perforated door and a fan top. A rack of low-power control gear in a boardroom wants a solid door for quiet. Vented is the middle ground and the most common choice.

Do I need side panels on every rack in a row?

No. Gangable racks share the panel between them, so a row of four typically needs one pair of side panels at the two ends. That is one of the real cost advantages of ganging.

Are rack locks keyed alike?

Options vary by series. Keyed-alike is usually preferable across a site so one key opens every rack; keyed-different suits multi-tenant or departmental spaces. Tell us which you need and we will confirm the part.

Can I add a door to an existing rack?

Usually yes, provided the door matches the frame series and rack space count. Doors are series-specific — a BGR door does not fit an ERK frame — so confirm the model before ordering.

Will a plexi door make the rack run hotter?

Yes, in the same way a solid door does — no air passes through it. Pair a plexi door with a vented top or fan top, or accept it only on low-heat racks.
