Sequencing protects the system and the building

Powering a rack of amplifiers on simultaneously draws a large inrush current and produces the thump that damages loudspeakers over time. A sequencer brings devices up in order — sources first, amplifiers last — and shuts them down in reverse.

On any rack with multiple amplifiers, sequencing is worth specifying from the start. Retrofitting it means rewiring the rack.

Conditioning against real conditions

Spike suppression protects against surges on the supply. A digital voltmeter is more useful than it sounds — in buildings with marginal supply or heavy motor loads, being able to see the incoming voltage turns an intermittent fault into a diagnosed one.

Remote activation

Remote-trigger models let the rack power up from a control system, a scheduler or a wall switch outside the equipment room, which matters where the rack is locked and the people using the room are not technicians.
