What TAA compliance actually means

The Trade Agreements Act governs what can be supplied on federal contracts above the applicable threshold. A product qualifies based on its country of manufacture or substantial transformation — determined part number by part number, not by brand, and not by a general statement on a manufacturer's website.

That distinction matters more than people expect. The same projector family can include compliant and non-compliant variants under different part numbers, and the difference is invisible unless you check. Christie maintains a TAA-compliant line specifically so the status is unambiguous on the models that carry it.

Where this comes up

Federal agencies and federally funded projects. Also state, county and municipal work where the funding originates federally — which catches more projects than buyers expect, including school district technology grants and transit authority capital programs.

If you are unsure whether a project carries the requirement, it is cheaper to establish that before the bill of materials is priced than after the award.

Specify the room, not just the compliance box

A compliant projector in the wrong place is still the wrong projector. Throw distance, lens shift, brightness against ambient light and mounting all have to work — see the lens range, since most Christie installation projectors ship as no-lens bodies and the optic is a required line item.
