Large-room Cisco, after the Codec Pro
Cisco's Room Kit Pro G2 replaces the Codec Pro and Room Kit Pro, which reached last ship date on August 17, 2026. The G2 pairs a new NVIDIA-powered Codec Pro G2 with either the Quad Camera or the Room Vision PTZ, adds MDEP certification for Microsoft Teams Rooms, and moves the audio system onto PoE. If Codec Pro is in your room standard, it is no longer orderable.
What follows is what changed, what carries over, and what to do about a standard built on hardware Cisco has stopped shipping.

What happened to the Cisco Codec Pro and Room Kit Pro?
Cisco published the end-of-life announcement on February 16, 2026. The milestones matter more than the announcement, because two of them have already passed and three have not.

The affected part numbers include CS-CODEC-PRO-K9 and CS-CODEC-PRO-NR-K9 on the codec side, and CS-KITPRO-K9, CS-KITPRO-C-K9 and CS-KITPRO-PTZ4K-K9 on the bundle side.
Read the dates the way a facilities or IT team should. Installed rooms are not in trouble: security support runs to May 2031, which is a longer runway than most AV refresh cycles. Feature development stops sooner, in May 2028. The immediate problem is procurement, not operation — a room standard that names Codec Pro cannot be built any more, and a spare codec cannot be bought from Cisco.
One detail deserves attention from government and defense buyers in particular: Cisco's own bulletin notes that some Codec Pro variants without encryption have no migration product currently available. If your standard depends on a non-encryption variant, confirm the replacement path before assuming one exists.
What is the Cisco Room Kit Pro G2?
Room Kit Pro G2 is a bundle, not a single device: the Codec Pro G2, a camera, and a Room Navigator touch controller. Cisco positions it for large spaces — boardrooms, training rooms, auditoriums, divisible rooms, and integrator scenarios where the room is built rather than bought off a shelf.

Cisco lists the system starting at $14,995. The standalone codec is the part an integrator reaches for when the cameras, microphones and loudspeakers are being specified independently of Cisco.
Two variants matter to buyers with procurement constraints. The codec is available in a TAA-compliant version for federal and public-sector purchasing, and in a no-radio version for facilities where the wireless radio has to be absent rather than merely disabled. Both are worth naming explicitly in a specification, because substituting one for the other late in a project is not a like-for-like swap.
Codec Pro G2 connectivity
The codec is a 16.9 by 9.9 inch chassis, 2.6 inches tall, 6.2 lb, drawing up to 270 watts from 100 to 240 VAC. Compliance model TTC6-16.

The three-display capability and the five HDMI inputs are what keep this in the integrator category rather than the appliance category. A room with a confidence monitor, a rear display, a lectern PC, a document camera and a resident production switcher still fits.
Quad Camera or Room Vision PTZ — which one?
The bundle choice is really a camera choice, and the two cameras solve different rooms.

The Quad Camera's four sensors do speaker framing without moving anything, which is why it suits a boardroom where the participants sit still and the camera should not visibly hunt. The Room Vision PTZ's 12x optical reach is what an auditorium or a large training room needs, where the subject is 40 feet away and a wide sensor crop would not hold up. Rooms that need both — a presenter camera and an audience camera — use the codec's support for up to five IP cameras and let the AI director switch between them.
What actually changed from Codec Pro to Codec Pro G2?
Three things, and only one of them is on the spec sheet in a way that reads as important.
The compute changed. Codec Pro G2 is NVIDIA-powered, which is what makes the AI feature set run locally rather than as a cloud service. Cisco describes an intelligent multi-camera director with multi-camera speaker tracking and dual cross-view, presenter tracking, AI noise removal, AI notetaking, and smart meeting zones. Whether those features earn their keep in a given room is a judgment call. Whether the hardware can run them is not — that is the generational difference.
The platform position changed. Cisco calls the G2 the first large-room integrator solution certified for the Microsoft Device Ecosystem Platform. In practice that means the same box runs Cisco Rooms with full Webex and Zoom, or runs Microsoft Teams Rooms natively on MDEP, rather than through an interop layer. For an organization standardized on Teams that previously ruled out Cisco endpoints for large rooms, that is the change worth re-examining.
The audio infrastructure moved to PoE. Eight PoE ports with a 120 W budget, feeding up to eight digital Table Microphone Pro or Ceiling Microphone Pro units. Analog is still there — four phantom-powered Euroblock inputs, two balanced outputs — so a room with an existing DSP and analog mic plant does not have to be rebuilt. But a new room gets microphones on structured cable, which is a materially cheaper first fix than analog home runs.
Registration options are unchanged in scope: Webex, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom for Cisco Rooms, H.323, SIP, WebRTC, BYOD over USB-C passthrough, plus native registration on Cisco Expressway and Unified Communications Manager. On-premises deployments are still supported.
What should you do if Codec Pro is in your standard?
There are three honest paths, and which one applies depends on where the rooms are in their lifecycle rather than on what is newest.
Leave installed rooms alone. Security and vulnerability support runs to May 31, 2031. A room commissioned in 2023 has more supported life ahead of it than most organizations budget for. Replacing working Codec Pro rooms because of an end-of-sale notice is spending capital to solve a procurement problem you do not have.
Change the standard document now. The specification that names CS-CODEC-PRO-K9 needs to name CS-CPRO-K9 or a bundle part number instead, before the next project goes to bid. This is the item that quietly costs money — a bid built on an unorderable part number gets re-scoped late, and late re-scoping is where schedules slip.
Decide between G2 and Room Kit EQ for new large rooms. Room Kit Pro G2 is the integrator answer: five HDMI inputs, three displays, up to five IP cameras, analog and digital audio, and a codec that expects to be designed around. The Cisco Room Kit EQ covers the large room that does not need that much I/O, and it is available today in non-radio and PTZ 4K configurations, including a non-radio PTZ 4K variant for facilities where the radio has to come out. For medium rooms that were over-specified with Codec Pro in the first place — and there are more of those than anyone admits — the Cisco Room Bar with a Room Navigator does the job at a fraction of the price.


The question that decides it is not room size. It is whether anything other than the far end is going on a display. A room whose job is video calls does not need five HDMI inputs. A room that also hosts town halls, hybrid training, and a production feed does.

Yes, natively. Cisco describes the Room Kit Pro G2 as the first large-room integrator solution certified for the Microsoft Device Ecosystem Platform, so Teams Rooms runs on the device itself rather than through an interoperability layer. The same hardware also runs Cisco Rooms with full-featured Webex and Zoom, supports H.323, SIP and WebRTC, accepts BYOD over USB-C passthrough, and registers natively to Cisco Expressway or Unified Communications Manager for on-premises deployments. Practically, this removes a decision that used to be made at purchase time. Cisco's last date of support for the Codec Pro and Room Kit Pro is May 31, 2031, and vulnerability and security support runs to the same date, which is longer than most organizations' AV refresh cycle. Software maintenance releases end earlier, on May 18, 2028, so new features stop arriving before support does. The practical response is to update the room standard document so future projects specify an orderable part number, secure spares while secondary-market stock is still sound, and let installed rooms run their planned life. The exception is a room already scheduled for refresh or one whose failure would stop business — those are worth pulling forward rather than buying an end-of-life spare for. Budget the migration across two or three fiscal years instead of treating it as a single replacement event.
