Product Overview

The Symetrix EDGE (80-0204) is an open-architecture, expansion-card-based DSP processor with 8 balanced analog inputs and 8 balanced analog outputs, providing a field-configurable commercial audio DSP platform for conference rooms, training rooms, and AV installations where Dante audio networking is not required. Sharing the same expansion card architecture as the EDGE Dante, the 80-0204 supports internal analog I/O, AEC, VoIP, telephone interface, and USB audio expansion cards — allowing the chassis to adapt to evolving room requirements without hardware replacement. All programming is handled via Symetrix Composer at no per-unit license fee, making it a cost-effective, scalable platform for analog-infrastructure AV deployments.

Product Description

The EDGE processes audio at 40-bit floating-point precision at 48 kHz, with integrated acoustic echo cancellation and automatic gain control included in the base configuration. The open-architecture card expansion system differentiates the EDGE from fixed-I/O DSP platforms: as room requirements evolve — adding VoIP conferencing, USB audio for soft-codec systems, or additional AEC channels for a larger microphone array — the appropriate card can be installed in the field without returning the unit to the factory. This makes the EDGE particularly well-suited to multi-phase installations and standardized room deployments where some rooms require telephone or VoIP interfaces and others do not.

Symetrix Composer provides the full programming environment with no per-unit license cost. DSP blocks for AEC, AGC, EQ, gating, dynamics, and routing are configured graphically and linked to third-party control system commands for Crestron, AMX, and similar platforms. Symetrix ARC wall panels integrate natively for room-level end-user controls.

Key Features

  • Open-Architecture Expansion Card Platform — Internal card slots accept analog I/O, AEC, VoIP, telephone interface, and USB audio expansion cards, enabling in-field configuration changes without chassis replacement.
  • 8 Balanced Analog Inputs / 8 Balanced Analog Outputs (Base) — Phoenix terminal I/O provides 8 channels in each direction as shipped, expandable via internal cards for additional analog I/O.
  • Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) — Integrated AEC removes loudspeaker-to-microphone feedback; additional AEC capacity available via dedicated AEC expansion card for larger microphone arrays.
  • Automatic Gain Control (AGC) — Automatically normalizes talker levels for consistent conference call audio without manual adjustment.
  • VoIP and Telephone Interface Card Support — Optional VoIP and PSTN telephone interface cards can be installed to add SIP and traditional telephone line conferencing capability in the field.
  • USB Audio Card Support — Optional USB audio expansion enables direct laptop and soft-codec connectivity for bring-your-own-device meeting environments.
  • Mixing, Routing, and Signal Processing — Full mixing matrix, routing, EQ, dynamics, and gating in Composer for multi-source, multi-zone signal flows.
  • 40-Bit Floating-Point Processing at 48 kHz — High-precision DSP engine maintains audio fidelity across all base and expanded I/O channels.
  • Symetrix Composer Programming (No License Fee) — Complete DSP configuration, expansion card integration, and control system binding at no per-seat or per-unit software cost.
  • 1U Rack-Mount Form Factor — Standard single rack unit chassis accommodates base hardware and expansion cards in a compact rack footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the EDGE (80-0204) and the EDGE Dante (80-0048)?

A: The 80-0204 does not include a Dante card. All other capabilities — open-architecture expansion card slots, 8-channel analog I/O, AEC, AGC, 40-bit processing, and Composer programming — are identical. Specify the non-Dante model when Dante audio networking is not required in the system design, resulting in lower system cost for analog-infrastructure deployments.

Q: Can Dante be added to the EDGE (80-0204) later?

A: The EDGE platform does not support a Dante expansion card. If Dante networking is required, the 80-0048 EDGE Dante is the appropriate model to specify at time of purchase.

Q: What expansion cards are available for the EDGE?

A: Available expansion cards include additional analog input/output cards, a dedicated AEC card for expanded echo cancellation channels, a VoIP interface card for SIP-based conferencing, a PSTN telephone interface card, and a USB audio card for soft-codec and laptop audio connectivity. Contact Creation Networks for current availability and pricing.

Q: How does the EDGE differ from the Prism 8x8?

A: The Prism 8x8 uses a fixed I/O architecture with a set analog channel count that cannot be changed. The EDGE supports internal expansion cards for additional I/O types — including VoIP, telephone, and USB audio — providing greater flexibility for installations where room requirements may evolve after initial deployment.

Q: What control systems are supported?

A: Crestron, AMX, and other TCP/IP-based control systems are supported via Composer control bindings. Symetrix ARC wall panels integrate natively for end-user room controls.

Q: What warranty applies?

A: Symetrix provides a standard manufacturer warranty on EDGE series products. Contact Creation Networks for current warranty terms and support options for your installation.
