Product Overview

The Meyer Sound LEOPARD is a compact, self-powered linear line array loudspeaker built for high-output sound reinforcement in small- to medium-sized touring and fixed installations. With 110-degree horizontal coverage in a lightweight cabinet, this compact line array speaker delivers high intelligibility and low distortion for venues such as theaters, clubs, and houses of worship. This standard 3-pin configuration provides balanced analog audio input for straightforward integration into installed AV systems. As part of Meyer Sound's LEO family, LEOPARD pairs onboard amplification with precise directional control.

Product Description

Meyer Sound LEOPARD compact self-powered line array loudspeaker, 3-pin standard

LEOPARD integrates two 9-inch long-excursion cone drivers and a 3-inch compression driver coupled to a constant-directivity horn through a patented REM manifold, driven by a three-channel class D amplifier rated at 3900 W peak. Its self-powered design and Native Mode allow excellent performance out of the box with minimal external processing, while QuickFly rigging with captive GuideALinks sets splay angles from 0.5 to 15 degrees. This standard 3-pin model accepts balanced analog audio over XLR. For low-frequency extension, LEOPARD pairs with the 750-LFC and other LFC elements, and integrators may also compare it with the larger-format PANTHER-L. Additional Meyer Sound line array products are available in the Meyer Sound collection.

Key Features

  • Compact Self-Powered Design — Onboard three-channel class D amplification removes the need for external amplifier racks in a lightweight 75 lb cabinet.
  • 110-degree Horizontal Coverage — Wide, consistent coverage with strong phase coherence suits a broad range of room shapes.
  • High Output, Low Distortion — A 142 dB maximum SPL with THD below 0.02 percent delivers high headroom with clean reproduction.
  • Native Mode Operation — Optimized factory tuning yields strong performance out of the box with minimal external processing.
  • QuickFly GuideALink Rigging — Captive rigging sets splay angles from 0.5 to 15 degrees for fast, repeatable array assembly.
  • Standard 3-Pin Analog Input — XLR 3-pin connectors accept balanced audio for direct integration into installed AV systems.
  • RMS Remote Monitoring Ready — LEOPARD works with Meyer Sound's RMS system for comprehensive parameter monitoring from a host computer.
  • LEO-Family Integration — Galileo GALAXY product-integration files allow use as fill within LYON and LEO-M systems.

Typical Applications

  • House of Worship — High intelligibility and wide coverage support speech and music in worship spaces.
  • Auditorium — Compact arrays deliver even coverage and headroom for theater and auditorium programs.
  • Multi-Purpose Room — Lightweight, scalable arrays adapt to varied events in multi-purpose venues.
  • All-Hands Room — Clear full-bandwidth reproduction serves large corporate presentation spaces.

Competitor Comparison

Criterion Meyer Sound LEOPARD L-Acoustics Kara II d&b Y8
Amplification LEOPARD is self-powered with a three-channel class D amplifier in each cabinet. The Kara II is externally amplified and requires L-Acoustics LA-series controllers. The Y8 is externally amplified and requires d&b amplifiers such as the D20 or D80.
Low-Frequency Section LEOPARD uses dual 9-inch long-excursion cone drivers for its size class. The Kara II uses dual 8-inch LF drivers in a two-way configuration. The Y8 uses a single 8-inch LF driver with a constant-directivity horn.
Horizontal Coverage LEOPARD provides a fixed 110-degree horizontal pattern. The Kara II offers mechanically variable directivity via fins. The Y8 provides an 80-degree fixed horizontal pattern.
Maximum SPL LEOPARD reaches a 142 dB maximum SPL in a compact cabinet. The Kara II reaches a comparable 142 dB peak in its class. The Y8 produces slightly lower maximum output suited to its single-woofer design.
System Simplicity LEOPARD reduces rack space and cabling since amplification is onboard. The Kara II requires amplified controllers sized to the array. The Y8 requires external amplifier racks proportional to the system.
Monitoring LEOPARD reports parameters through Meyer Sound's RMS remote monitoring system. The Kara II reports through the LA Network Manager at the amplifier. The Y8 reports through d&b R1 software at the amplifier.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the standard 3-pin configuration mean? The standard 3-pin model uses XLR 3-pin connectors that accommodate balanced audio only. A 5-pin variant is available where RMS monitoring signals must travel on the same connector.

Does LEOPARD require external amplifiers? No. Each LEOPARD cabinet is self-powered with an onboard three-channel class D amplifier, so no outboard amplifier racks are required.

How does LEOPARD integrate into a larger Meyer Sound system? Using the Galileo GALAXY Network Platform's product-integration files, LEOPARD can serve as downfill, sidefill, or outfill within LYON and LEO-M systems and pairs with LFC low-frequency elements.

What low-frequency options pair with LEOPARD? LEOPARD pairs with Meyer Sound LFC elements such as the 750-LFC and 900-LFC for low-frequency extension in flown or ground-stacked arrays.

What warranty and support are available? LEOPARD is covered under Meyer Sound's standard product warranty. For warranty, design, or support questions, contact Creation Networks.
