Product Overview

The Meyer Sound LEOPARD-M80 is a narrow-coverage variant of the compact, self-powered LEOPARD line array, engineered for applications that require tight, controlled dispersion. With 80-degree horizontal coverage, this compact line array speaker delivers long-throw control for the tops of arrays and as outfill in larger LEOPARD systems. This standard 3-pin configuration accepts balanced analog audio for straightforward AV system integration. Because it matches LEOPARD's acoustical and vertical characteristics, M80 transitions cleanly within mixed arrays.

Product Description

Meyer Sound LEOPARD-M80 narrow coverage line array loudspeaker, 3-pin

LEOPARD-M80 shares LEOPARD's two 9-inch cone drivers, 3-inch compression driver on a REM-manifold horn, and three-channel class D amplifier rated at 3900 W peak, but provides a controlled 80-degree horizontal pattern for narrow, long-throw coverage. It is used wherever tighter control is needed in LEOPARD arrays, such as at the top of a hang or as full outfill arrays. The standard 3-pin XLR input accepts balanced analog audio. M80 commonly works alongside the wider LEOPARD Standard 3-pin and pairs with the 750-LFC for low-frequency extension. Additional Meyer Sound line array products are available in the Meyer Sound collection.

Key Features

  • Narrow 80-degree Coverage — The controlled 80-degree pattern provides long-throw directivity for array tops and outfill positions.
  • Acoustical Match to LEOPARD — M80 matches LEOPARD's vertical coverage and tonal character for clean transitions in mixed arrays.
  • Compact Self-Powered Design — Onboard three-channel class D amplification removes external amplifier racks in a 75 lb cabinet.
  • High Output, Low Distortion — A 142 dB maximum SPL and 135 dB linear peak with THD below 0.02 percent provide headroom and clean reproduction.
  • Standard 3-Pin Analog Input — XLR 3-pin connectors accept balanced audio for direct AV system integration.
  • QuickFly GuideALink Rigging — Captive rigging sets splay angles from 0.5 to 15 degrees for repeatable array builds.
  • RMS Remote Monitoring Ready — Works with Meyer Sound's RMS system for parameter monitoring from a host computer.
  • LEO-Family Integration — Galileo GALAXY product-integration files allow use as fill within LYON and LEO-M systems.

Typical Applications

  • House of Worship — Narrow long-throw coverage reaches distant seating in deep worship spaces.
  • Auditorium — Controlled dispersion serves balconies and far-field zones in auditoriums.
  • Multi-Purpose Room — Tight pattern control supports outfill and array tops in large multi-purpose rooms.
  • All-Hands Room — Focused coverage reaches the back of large corporate all-hands spaces.

Competitor Comparison

Criterion Meyer Sound LEOPARD-M80 L-Acoustics Kara II d&b Y8
Amplification LEOPARD-M80 is self-powered with onboard class D amplification in each cabinet. The Kara II is externally amplified and requires L-Acoustics LA-series controllers. The Y8 is externally amplified and requires d&b amplifiers.
Horizontal Coverage LEOPARD-M80 provides a fixed narrow 80-degree pattern for long-throw control. The Kara II offers mechanically variable directivity via fins. The Y8 provides a comparable 80-degree fixed horizontal pattern.
Array Matching M80 matches LEOPARD's vertical coverage and tone for clean mixed-array transitions. The Kara II integrates within the K-series family for matched arrays. The Y8 integrates within the d&b Y-series for matched arrays.
Linear Peak SPL M80 reaches 135 dB linear peak with a 19 dB crest factor in its compact cabinet. The Kara II reaches a comparable 142 dB peak with external amplification. The Y8 delivers output appropriate to its single-woofer design.
System Simplicity M80 reduces rack space and cabling since amplification is onboard. The Kara II requires amplified controllers sized to the array. The Y8 requires external amplifier racks proportional to the system.
Monitoring M80 reports parameters through Meyer Sound's RMS remote monitoring system. The Kara II reports through LA Network Manager at the amplifier. The Y8 reports through d&b R1 software at the amplifier.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does LEOPARD-M80 differ from standard LEOPARD? M80 provides an 80-degree horizontal pattern for narrow, long-throw control, while standard LEOPARD provides 110 degrees of wider coverage. The two share vertical coverage and tone for clean mixed-array transitions.

Where is M80 typically used in an array? M80 is well-suited to the top of an array for long-throw zones and as full outfill arrays where tighter horizontal control is required.

Does it require external amplifiers? No. Each LEOPARD-M80 cabinet is self-powered with an onboard three-channel class D amplifier, so no outboard amplifier racks are required.

How does it integrate into a larger Meyer Sound system? Through the Galileo GALAXY Network Platform's product-integration files, M80 can serve as fill within LYON and LEO-M systems and pairs with LFC low-frequency elements.

What warranty and support are available? LEOPARD-M80 is covered under Meyer Sound's standard product warranty. For warranty, design, or support questions, contact Creation Networks.
