Draper Nocturne+ E weather-resistant electric projection screens are built for covered outdoor installation — patios, pool decks, hospitality terraces, courtyards and rooftop venues where a standard indoor screen would fail within a season. The case, hardware and surface are specified for exposure that an interior screen was never designed to survive.

What weather-resistant actually means here

The headbox is extruded aluminium, sealed against insects and weather so the roller, motor and limit switches stay protected between uses. That matters more than it sounds: on outdoor screens the usual failure is not the fabric but the mechanism, after debris or nesting insects get into the case over a quiet winter.

Weather-resistant is not the same as fully exposed. These screens are specified for covered or partially sheltered positions — under a pergola, a deep soffit, a canopy. A screen mounted in open weather with no overhead protection will not last, whatever the case is made of.

Mounting

Nocturne+ E uses floating wall brackets that grip the back of the case rather than requiring exact fastener alignment through it. In practice this is what makes an outdoor install manageable: masonry, stucco and exterior framing rarely give you fixings exactly where a fixed bracket pattern wants them, and the floating design absorbs that. Confirm the substrate will take the load before ordering — an outdoor case plus fabric is heavier than the indoor equivalent.

Sizing and format

Sizes run from 100 inches through 12 feet in HDTV 16:9, NTSC 4:3 and 16:10 widescreen. Match the aspect ratio to the projector's native format rather than to the wall — a mismatched pair wastes both resolution and lumens, and outdoors you have neither to spare.

Size also follows viewing distance and seating, but outdoors there is a second constraint: ambient light. Even after dark, pool lighting, landscape lighting and adjacent buildings put light on the screen, so the projector has to be specified with real headroom rather than to the same brightness you would use in a darkened room.

Planning an outdoor projection system

The screen is usually the straightforward part. Power and control have to reach an exterior wall, the projector needs its own weather protection or an enclosure, cable routing has to survive the same exposure, and the whole system needs somewhere to go when the weather turns. Those decisions are cheaper to make at design stage than after the trenching is done.
