Draper surface-mounted projection screens install directly onto a finished wall or ceiling, with the case visible rather than recessed. They are the practical choice in existing buildings where cutting into the ceiling is not an option, in leased space, and on retrofit projects where the ceiling is already closed.

Where surface mounting makes sense

A recessed screen needs the case framed into the ceiling before the drywall goes up, plus power and control pulled to it. Once a building is finished, that work means opening the ceiling. A surface-mounted case brackets to the wall or the ceiling structure instead, and the only coordination required is a power outlet and a control run. Most manual and electric Draper screens are available in this configuration.

Wall versus ceiling

Wall mounting puts the case above the screen wall and is the simpler install, but it fixes the screen's position relative to the wall. Ceiling mounting drops the screen away from the wall, which is what you want when a whiteboard, display or millwork sits behind it, or when the projected image needs to clear a lectern. Confirm the structure above can carry the load before specifying a ceiling mount — a full-size electric case is heavier than it looks, and ceiling grid alone will not hold it.

Size follows viewing distance and seating layout, and aspect ratio should match the projector's native ratio.
