What is the RDL SAS-8C?
The RDL SAS-8C is an eight-station audio controller for the RDL SourceFlex distributed audio system. It controls eight SourceFlex listening stations, lets the installer set a maximum listening level at each station and protects each station's power feed with an auto-resetting fuse. RDL notes that using the SAS-8C in large SourceFlex systems gives the most economical cost per station, which suits libraries, training rooms and listening labs.
How does it work?

Each remote listening station connects to the SAS-8C with six-conductor wire, and the power conductor to each station is protected by an automatically resetting fuse. LEDs show when output voltage is present at the remote outputs. The controller accepts a paging input and eight switched audio inputs, each 100 kΩ balanced or unbalanced line level on detachable terminal blocks, with input level adjustable from -22 dBu to +4 dBu nominal on 25-turn pots. A paging terminal activates paging with an external closure to ground, and a DIP switch sets the number of inputs used. A green LED indicates audio level by intensity and a red LED marks 0 dB level for setup. Output gain range is 40 dB and presettable with a trimmer to cap the listening level at each station. A 24-pin ribbon-cable bus provides daisy-chain connections to and from the SAS-82 and the RDL SAS-8I audio input chassis. Listening stations such as the RDL D-SFRC8 room control station and SAS-HC8 headphone control station connect to the outputs. The SAS-8C runs on ground-referenced 24 Vdc at 1 A; RDL recommends the RDL PS-24V3A (USA) or PS-24V3 (international) supply, not included, and lists the RK-2U utility rack chassis for mounting.
What are the key features?

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SourceFlex?
SourceFlex is RDL's distributed audio system, in which listening stations select from shared audio sources managed by controllers such as the SAS-8C.
How are listening stations wired?
Each remote station connects to the SAS-8C with six-conductor wire on a detachable terminal block.
Can I limit how loud each station gets?
Yes. The output gain trimmer sets a maximum listening level for each station across a 40 dB range.
Is a power supply included?
No. It requires 24 Vdc at 1 A. RDL recommends the PS-24V3A (USA) or PS-24V3 (international).
Can it expand with other SourceFlex chassis?
Yes. A 24-pin ribbon-cable bus daisy-chains to and from the SAS-82 and SAS-8i.
What warranty does it carry?
This product is covered by a 7-year RDL warranty. For warranty claims, RMAs or support, contact Creation Networks at (888) 230-3661 or sales@creationnetworks.net.
