What is the RDL SAS-HC8?
The RDL SAS-HC8 is a SourceFlex headphone listening station that lets users pick an audio source and set their own volume from exercise equipment or a countertop. Sealed touch controls and a rugged metal ULTRASTYLE enclosure hold up to heavy public use. A safety feature resets volume to a safe level when headphones are unplugged.
How does it work?
Each SAS-HC8 has a source selector with a 7-segment red LED numeric display showing the selected channel, 1 through 8, with 0 indicating off or paging. Momentary buttons select the source and ramp the volume up or down, with a nominal 5-second ramp across a 40 dB adjustment range. The buttons are replaceable and protected by moisture-resistant polycarbonate, which keeps debris and moisture away from the internal circuitry. Two output jacks accept either 1/4 in (6.35 mm) or 1/8 in (mini) headphone plugs, and the amplified output delivers 200 mW RMS into 100 Ω. If headphones are left unplugged, the internal processor resets volume to a safe listening level to avoid a loud audio burst at the next plug-in. The station connects to the SourceFlex system controller through a 6-position detachable terminal block that carries audio and dc control signals. An included bracket with clamps mounts it to a flat surface or to tubing 0.75 in to 1.5 in (1.9 to 3.8 cm) in diameter.
