What is the RDL RU-NFD?

The RDL RU-NFD is a RACK-UP Format-A sender and distributor that converts Dante network audio to RDL Format-A twisted-pair outputs. Three Dante channels feed Format-A pairs A, B and C, and a fourth Dante channel drives a balanced +4 dBu aux line output. It lets integrators feed RDL Format-A receivers, wall plates and amplifiers from a Dante system.

How does it work?

RDL RU-NFD Dante to Format-A interface

The Format-A output is distributed to three separate rear-panel RJ45 jacks, and each jack supplies up to 200 mA to connected Format-A receivers. Receivers can be daisy chained from one jack or home-run to each of the three outputs. Higher-current receivers, such as RDL powered Decora-style speakers, connect to a separate output jack. Each receiver may be near the RU-NFD or up to several thousand feet away on CATx cable. Front-panel green LEDs indicate the received level for each of the four Dante channels, which helps setup without a networked computer on site. Outputs mute when the digital audio inputs are inactive. High-resolution 24-bit converters and RDL analog filtering deliver a very low noise floor. The RU-NFD runs from an external 24 Vdc supply, which powers Format-A receivers through all three output jacks; RDL recommends its PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) 24 Vdc supply. RDL also offers the RU-NFDP with PoE operation. Compatible receivers include the RDL D-TPR1A, RDL SF-TPR24A and RDL SF-PA100A amplifier. The module mounts with RDL RACK-UP accessories such as the RU-HRA1 10.4-inch rack mount, RC-1UR 19-inch universal rack chassis, RU-SMA1 surface mounting plate and RU-BR1 under-surface bracket.

What are the key features?

  • Dante to Format-A — Three Dante channels feed Format-A pairs A, B and C.
  • Aux line output — A fourth Dante channel drives a balanced +4 dBu aux output.
  • Three distribution jacks — Format-A output is distributed to three rear-panel RJ45 jacks.
  • Powers remote receivers — Each jack supplies up to 200 mA to connected receivers.
  • Auto mute — Outputs mute when the Dante inputs are inactive.
  • Signal LEDs — Indicate audio on each of the four received Dante channels.

Where is it typically used?

  • Conference rooms and boardrooms
  • Training rooms and classrooms
  • Auditoriums and multi-purpose rooms

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I connect to the RU-NFD outputs?

Any RDL Format-A receiver, including wall-plate receivers, rack receivers such as the SF-TPR24A and Format-A amplifiers such as the SF-PA100A.

How far can receivers be located?

RDL states each Format-A receiver may be near the RU-NFD or up to several thousand feet away.

How is the RU-NFD powered?

From an external 24 Vdc supply (24 Vdc at 120 mA plus connected loads). RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international). The RU-NFDP version adds PoE.

Can I bring Format-A audio back into Dante?

Yes, with a Format-A to Dante interface such as the RDL RU-FN or RU-FNP.

What warranty does the RU-NFD carry?

This product is covered by a 7-year RDL warranty. For warranty claims, RMAs or support, contact Creation Networks at (888) 230-3661 or sales@creationnetworks.net.

Can Creation Networks help design and commission the system?
