What is the RDL DDS-RN40?
The RDL DDS-RN40 is a software-configured 4 x 2 Dante mic/line wall interface in a stainless steel Decora-style finish. It provides four front-panel XLR mic/line inputs, along with two balanced line outputs on a rear-panel terminal block. Gain, phantom power and output levels are set over the network with RDL CONSOLE or other network control software, and a Q-SYS plug-in is available for configuration inside a Q-SYS design. It runs on PoE and suits conference rooms, classrooms and meeting spaces where settings need to be adjusted remotely instead of at the wall.
How does it work?

The DDS-RN40 installs in a standard North American dual-gang electrical box (4" square deep recommended) or an RDL WB-2U international wall box for thinner walls. Each XLR input becomes its own Dante transmit channel, with software-selectable mic gain of 35 dB, 42 dB or 59 dB and line gain of unity or 12 dB. P48 phantom power can be enabled in software when an input is set to mic level, so condenser microphones can be added without opening the wall plate. Two Dante channels are converted to +4 dBu balanced line level on a rear-panel detachable terminal block, for a network level of -18 dBFS. Each output has a software-controlled attenuator adjustable in 1 dB steps to 62 dB, then OFF. The outputs are intended for RDL AMS connector modules (RCA, mini-jack or XLR) in matching Decora plates, mounted in a triple-gang box with the interface or remotely in a single-gang box. Green front-panel LEDs confirm PoE power and Dante sync. RDL mic preamplifiers and 24-bit conversion in a steel chassis with Decora front plates deliver low-noise performance for continuous duty, and the unit is built in the U.S.A. For a finished stainless steel install, use the RDL CP-2S double cover plate, or the RDL CP-3S triple cover plate when an AMS output plate shares the box. AMS connector modules such as the AMS-XLM XLR male jack, AMS-XLRMA mic/line XLR output and AMS-1/8F stereo mini-jack complete the output connections.
What are the key features?
- 4 x 2 Dante I/O — Combines mic, line and output connections in a single PoE-powered wall plate.
- Network configuration — Gain, phantom and output level are set with RDL CONSOLE or other network control software.
- Q-SYS plug-in — A Q-SYS plug-in is available for configuring the interface inside a Q-SYS environment.
- Software-selectable gain — Mic gain of 35, 42 or 59 dB and line gain of unity or 12 dB are chosen remotely per input.
- Remote P48 phantom — Phantom power is enabled in software on any input set to mic level.
- 1 dB output attenuators — Each balanced output has a software-controlled attenuator in 1 dB steps for precise level matching.
- 24-bit Dante audio — Supports 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz at 24 bits with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±0.5 dB) response.
- PoE powered — Runs on PoE Class 0 (IEEE 802.3af) with no local supply at the wall.
- Decora wall mounting — Fits a dual-gang box or RDL WB-2U wall box with a stainless steel Decora-style front plate.
