What is the RDL DDB-BN31?
The RDL DDB-BN31 is a wall-mounted 4 x 4 Dante mic/line interface in a black Decora-style finish. It provides two front-panel XLR mic/line inputs and a stereo mini-jack line input, along with a front-panel stereo mini-jack output and two balanced line outputs on a rear-panel terminal block. It converts four analog sources to Dante network channels and returns four Dante channels to analog, all powered from a single PoE network connection. Every setting is made with on-board switches, so integrators can commission a Dante wall plate in a conference room, training room or multi-purpose space without special configuration software.
How does it work?

The DDB-BN31 installs in a standard North American dual-gang electrical box (4" square deep recommended) or an RDL WB-2U international wall box for thinner European-style walls. Each XLR input has three switches, reachable from the front with the cover plate removed: one enables P48 phantom power, one selects the mic or line range and one sets the gain. Mic gain is switch-selectable at 40 dB, 48 dB or 62 dB to suit dynamic or condenser microphones, and each XLR input feeds its own Dante transmit channel. The front-panel stereo mini-jack input feeds two Dante transmit channels at -20 dBFS for a -10 dBV source, and a selector sums left and right to mono for single-channel playback devices. The front-panel mini-jack output normally carries Dante receive channels 3 and 4 in stereo, or channel 3 to both sides in mono mode. The rear-panel terminal-block outputs deliver +4 dBu balanced for a -20 dBFS network level, and a per-output switch on top of the chassis converts each one to -10 dBV unbalanced for consumer equipment. Those outputs are intended for RDL AMS connector modules (RCA, mini-jack or XLR) in matching Decora plates, which can share a triple-gang box with the interface or mount remotely in a single-gang box. Green front-panel LEDs confirm valid PoE power and Dante network sync, which speeds up troubleshooting during commissioning. Discrete mic preamplifiers, 24-bit A/D and D/A conversion and metal XLR jacks in a stainless steel chassis give studio-grade fidelity in a commercial wall plate built in the U.S.A. For a finished black install, use the RDL CP-2B double cover plate, or the RDL CP-3B triple cover plate when an AMS output plate shares the box. AMS connector modules such as the AMS-XLM XLR male jack, AMS-XLRMA mic/line XLR output and AMS-1/8F stereo mini-jack complete the output connections.
What are the key features?
- 4 x 4 Dante I/O — Converts four analog inputs to Dante and four Dante channels back to analog in one wall plate.
- No software required — All gain, phantom and output settings are made with on-board switches, so setup does not depend on a laptop or plug-in.
- Switchable mic/line XLR inputs — Each XLR input selects mic or line range with three gain steps per range to match condenser, dynamic or line sources.
- P48 phantom power — Phantom power is switch-selectable per XLR input to IEC 61938 for condenser microphones.
- Stereo mini-jack I/O — Front-panel mini-jack input and output each switch between stereo and mono for laptops and personal devices.
- Selectable output level — Each terminal-block output switches between +4 dBu balanced and -10 dBV unbalanced.
- Low-noise preamps — Discrete mic preamplifiers achieve -130 dBu equivalent input noise at 62 dB gain.
- 24-bit conversion — Dante audio runs at 24 bits with 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sample rates and a 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±0.5 dB) response.
- PoE powered — Runs on PoE Class 0 (IEEE 802.3af), so no local power supply is needed at the wall.
- Decora wall mounting — Fits a North American dual-gang box or RDL WB-2U wall box with a black Decora-style front plate.
- Status LEDs — Front-panel LEDs show PoE power and Dante sync, with Ethernet link and speed LEDs on the rear.
