What is the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL USB 3.2 extender?
The Crestron USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL is the host-side endpoint of the USB-EXT-3S series, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 extender that carries USB up to 330 ft (100 m) over one CAT6a/7 cable at up to 5 Gbps. It connects to a single USB host, such as a conference room PC, Microsoft Teams Rooms compute module or media server, through a USB Type-C port. Pair it with the USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE or USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE-1G at the table or display to put UC cameras and soundbars where they belong.
How does the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL work?
A standard USB 3.2 cable tops out around 6 ft (1.8 m), which is too short for most rooms where the PC lives in a rack or credenza. The USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL converts the host's USB 3.2 signal onto a proprietary LINK connection and sends it point-to-point over CAT6a/7 to the remote endpoint, where your USB devices plug in. No drivers are needed on Windows, macOS, Linux or Chrome OS.
The series fully supports USB 3.2 isochronous (ISO) transport. ISO traffic, the kind UC cameras and video capture devices use, is guaranteed a share of USB bandwidth, so a flash drive or other bulk transfer on the same link will not drop frames on your camera feed.
Each endpoint also includes an RS-232 pass-through, so a Crestron control processor can reach a serial device at the far end over the same LINK cable. Power is simple: connect a 20VDC PW-2030DU power pack (sold separately) to either endpoint and it powers the other end over LINK.

Buying both ends together? The USB-EXT-3S SYSTEM bundles the LOCAL, REMOTE and power pack in one part number.
What are the key features of the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL?

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL pair with?
It pairs one-to-one with a USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE or USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE-1G. The two endpoints connect LINK port to LINK port over a single CAT6a/7 cable; the LINK ports cannot be connected to a network switch.
What cable does the USB-EXT-3S series need?
Use CAT6a or CAT7 F/FTP or U/FTP cable, up to 330 ft (100 m) total. Up to 33 ft (10 m) of patch cord can be used at each end; the rest should be solid-core premise cable.
Does it work with Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms cameras?
Yes. The USB-EXT-3S series fully supports USB 3.2 isochronous transport, which reserves bandwidth for UC cameras and capture devices so other USB traffic does not degrade the video. Crestron does not guarantee every USB host or device, so test unusual peripherals before rollout.
Does it need drivers?
No. It is plug-and-play with Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS hosts.
How is it powered?
Only one endpoint in a pair connects to a 20VDC power pack; it powers the other over the LINK cable. When the remote is powered over LINK, USB power to peripherals is limited to 17.5 W (3.5A). Two wall plates paired together each need their own PW-2030DUL.
Is it TAA compliant?
Yes, Crestron lists the USB-EXT-3S series as TAA compliant, which matters for federal and many state and local bids.
