What is the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE-1G wall plate extender?

The Crestron USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE-1G is a 1-gang USB 3.2 Gen 1 extender wall plate with three USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, for putting USB devices at the wall, behind a display or in a floor box up to 330 ft (100 m) from the host. Pair it with a USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL box or a USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL-1G wall plate.

How does the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE-1G work?

The plate receives USB 3.2 over the LINK cable from the local endpoint and provides four device ports. The three USB-A ports supply up to 1A each and the USB-C port up to 1.5A. Add USB hubs if you need more devices.

It fully supports isochronous transport for UC cameras and capture devices and includes an RS-232 pass-through. White and black front panels are included, and the plate fits FP-G1 decorator faceplates.

Paired with a USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL box, the plate can be powered over LINK. Paired with a LOCAL-1G wall plate, both plates need their own PW-2030DUL power pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Crestron USB-EXT-3S-REMOTE-1G pair with?

It pairs one-to-one with a USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL or USB-EXT-3S-LOCAL-1G. The two endpoints connect LINK port to LINK port over a single CAT6a/7 cable; the LINK ports cannot be connected to a network switch.

What cable does the USB-EXT-3S series need?

Use CAT6a or CAT7 F/FTP or U/FTP cable, up to 330 ft (100 m) total. Up to 33 ft (10 m) of patch cord can be used at each end; the rest should be solid-core premise cable.

Does it work with Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms cameras?

Yes. The USB-EXT-3S series fully supports USB 3.2 isochronous transport, which reserves bandwidth for UC cameras and capture devices so other USB traffic does not degrade the video. Crestron does not guarantee every USB host or device, so test unusual peripherals before rollout.

Does it need drivers?

No. It is plug-and-play with Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS hosts.

How is it powered?

Only one endpoint in a pair connects to a 20VDC power pack; it powers the other over the LINK cable. When the remote is powered over LINK, USB power to peripherals is limited to 17.5 W (3.5A). Two wall plates paired together each need their own PW-2030DUL.

Is it TAA compliant?

Yes, Crestron lists the USB-EXT-3S series as TAA compliant, which matters for federal and many state and local bids.

Can Creation Networks design and install it?

Yes. We spec, install, program and support USB extension as part of complete conference room systems. See our full line of Crestron AV solutions, or call 888.230.3661.
