What is the RDL SF-TPRS12A?
The RDL SF-TPRS12A is a Format-A twisted pair chassis with four audio sending sections and four audio receiving sections. It sends 12 balanced line-level channels and receives 12 channels over standard twisted pair cable using RJ45 connectors. Local power connected to the chassis also feeds the remote Format-A modules on each RJ45, with fault protection on every port. It is a central hub for analog audio distribution across large facilities, campuses and multi-room installations.
How does it work?

Each of the four sending sections accepts three +4 dBu balanced line-level sources on a detachable terminal block. Each section converts its three signals and transmits them on pairs A, B and C of the associated RJ45 connector. Because the sender feeds all three signal pairs, no other sending modules may be connected on the same cable as each RJ45 output. Each of the four receiving sections receives up to three audio sources and provides three outputs corresponding to pairs A, B and C. A studio-quality buffer amplifier feeds +4 dBu balanced outputs through a detachable terminal block, with +22 dBu maximum level. Bridging inputs allow connection to the LOOP OUT jack of other receivers, and Format-A receivers allow up to 10 receiver outputs per cable pair. The chassis is powered from 24 Vdc on the power jack or terminal block, and that power also feeds all modules connected to the eight RJ45 jacks. Each RJ45 power feed is protected by an automatically resetting fuse, and front-panel green LEDs show valid module power on each port. RDL recommends the PS-24V3A or PS-24V3 supply; mounting options include the SF-RA1 rack adapter and SF-UCB2 brackets, and the RDL SF-TPS24A and RDL SF-TPR24A are 24-channel send-only and receive-only versions.
What are the key features?
- 12 channels each way — Four three-pair sending sections and four three-pair receiving sections in one chassis.
- +4 dBu balanced I/O — Balanced line-level inputs and outputs on detachable terminal blocks.
- Remote module power — Local 24 Vdc power feeds all Format-A modules connected to the RJ45 jacks.
- Wiring fault protection — An automatically resetting fuse protects the power feed on each RJ45.
- Power status LEDs — A green LED per section confirms valid remote module power.
- Studio-quality circuitry — Precision active balanced circuits with THD+N under 0.005%.
Where is it typically used?

Frequently Asked Questions
What is RDL Format-A?
Format-A is RDL's twisted pair audio format that carries balanced audio on pairs A, B and C of an RJ45 cable, along with power for remote modules.
Can other senders share a cable with the SF-TPRS12A?
No. Each sending section uses all three signal pairs, so no other sending modules may be connected on the same cable.
Does it power remote modules?
Yes. Local 24 Vdc power is fed to modules on all eight RJ45 jacks, each protected by a resetting fuse, up to 1.6 A total.
Can multiple receivers listen to the same cable?
Format-A receivers use bridging inputs, allowing up to 10 receiver outputs per cable pair.
Which power supply should I use?
RDL recommends the RDL PS-24V3A or RDL PS-24V3 for this chassis.
What warranty applies?
This product is covered by a 7-year RDL warranty. For warranty claims, RMAs or support, contact Creation Networks at (888) 230-3661 or sales@creationnetworks.net.
