RDL RCX-5CM – 5-Room Combining System Controller with Mic Muting

What is the RDL RCX-5CM?

The RDL RCX-5CM is a room combining system controller that manages audio sources and amplifier inputs for up to five rooms, in the version RDL lists with microphone muting. Each room has a mic and/or line input, front-panel volume adjustment and RDL Dual-LED VU metering, and a paging input can override normal operation when required. Programming is simple and adapts to a wide range of room layouts, making it a practical room combining controller for divisible ballrooms, conference centers and school facilities.

How does it work?

The RCX-5CM is programmed to match the room layout, so audio routing follows the way partitions open and close. Each room can bring in a microphone, a line source or both, and every source has its own Dual-LED VU meter for level setting. A music input can be selected from a non-combined room, and the paging input can override normal operation for announcements. All switching and gain control is electronic and retained in memory. Wall-mounted remote panels such as the RDL D-RCX1, DB-RCX1 and DS-RCX1 room controls connect to the controller, and the RCX-CD1 remote control provides a panel with buttons laid out to match the rooms. Two controllers can be linked for larger systems. RDL application notes show the RCX-5C in two- and three-room combining systems, a funeral home and a school cafetorium. RDL recommends the RDL PS-24V3A (USA) or PS-24V3 (international) 24 Vdc power supply, which is not included, and lists the RK-2U 2 RU utility rack chassis as a mounting accessory.
