What is the RDL DB-RN2ML?

The RDL DB-RN2ML is a single-gang, black-finish Dante or AES67 wall plate interface with one XLR mic/line input, one 3.5 mm Mini-jack line input and two balanced outputs. It lets users connect a microphone and a laptop or media player at the wall, sending both onto the network as separate channels. The plate is PoE powered and configured in RDL CONSOLE or with the RDL Q-SYS plug-in.

How does it work?

RDL DB-RN2ML black Dante wall plate interface

The XLR input is converted to one Dante transmit channel, with five software-selectable gain settings: 35, 42 or 59 dB for microphones, and unity or 12 dB for line sources. P48 phantom power can be enabled in software when the XLR input is set for mic level. The stereo Mini-jack input is actively summed to mono and converted to a second Dante transmit channel. Its gain is optimized for -10 dBV sources and can be raised or lowered by 5 dB in software. Two network channels are converted to balanced line level on a rear-panel detachable wiring block, each delivering +4 dBu for -18 dBFS network audio. Each output has a software-controlled attenuator in 1 dB steps to -63 dB, then OFF. The outputs can drive local amplifiers or feed adjacent XLR jacks using an RDL DB-D2 dual plate with two AMS-XLRMA jacks. Green LEDs confirm PoE power and Dante sync, and the steel chassis mounts behind a black Decora front plate. The DB-RN2ML is engineered and manufactured in the U.S.A. by RDL.

What are the key features?

  • 2x2 Dante or AES67 interface — Two transmit and two receive channels in one single-gang plate.
  • XLR mic/line input — Software-selected gain of 35, 42 or 59 dB for mics, or unity or 12 dB for line sources.
  • Mini-jack line input — A stereo 3.5 mm input is summed to mono with software gain of unity, +5 dB or -5 dB.
  • Software-selectable P48 phantom — Phantom power is available on the XLR input when set for mic level.
  • Two balanced rear outputs — Detachable wiring block outputs with 1 dB step attenuators to -63 dB, then OFF.
  • PoE powered — Runs from an IEEE 802.3af PoE switch port with no local supply.

Where is it typically used?

  • Conference rooms and boardrooms
  • Training rooms and classrooms
  • Multi-purpose rooms
  • Houses of worship
  • Government and commercial meeting spaces

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Mini-jack input handle stereo sources?

The left and right channels of the 3.5 mm input are actively summed to mono and sent as one Dante channel. Gain is set for -10 dBV sources, with software options of +5 dB or -5 dB.

Does the DB-RN2ML need a separate power supply?

No. The DB-RN2ML is powered over the network cable from a PoE switch port (PoE Class 0, IEEE 802.3af), so no local power supply is needed at the wall.

How is the DB-RN2ML configured?

Input gain, phantom power, output attenuation and Dante routing are set in RDL CONSOLE or other network control software. RDL also offers a Q-SYS plug-in for configuring the module inside a Q-SYS design.

What electrical box does the DB-RN2ML fit?

It fits a standard US single-gang electrical box. RDL lists the EP-1 adaptor for EU/UK square back boxes with 60 mm screw centers.

Is the DB-RN2ML available in another finish?

Yes. The same interface is sold as the RDL DS-RN2ML in a stainless steel finish, so you can match the faceplate to the room.

What warranty does the DB-RN2ML carry?

RDL's product page does not list warranty terms for the DB-RN2ML. Contact Creation Networks for current manufacturer warranty coverage before you order.

Can Creation Networks help design and commission the system?

Yes. Our team handles networked audio design, equipment selection, installation and commissioning for commercial projects nationwide. Call (888) 230-3661 to discuss your project.
