Product Overview
The QSC SC-424 is a four-way, selectable tri- or quad-amplified behind-screen cinema loudspeaker from the DCS Digital Cinema Series, built for professional motion-picture playback in mid-to-large auditoriums. It combines the MHV-1090 mid/high/very-high system with the dual-15-inch LF-4215 low-frequency enclosure.
A coaxial neodymium HF/VHF compression driver and a horn-loaded 10-inch midrange deliver articulate dialogue and wide dynamic range from a shallow, easy-to-install behind-screen cabinet.
Product Description

The MHV-1090 mid/high/very-high system features a high-output, horn-loaded 10-inch midrange cone driver and a coaxial neodymium high-frequency/very-high-frequency compression driver, with a driver-protection network and a passive crossover for tri-amp operation. The protection circuitry prevents low-frequency signals from damaging the HF and VHF driver.
The high-power 10-inch cone driver operates as low as 250 Hz, and advanced phase-plug coupling permits a crossover point up to 1800 Hz to the high-frequency horn, so most of the dialogue range is reproduced by a single element for unmatched intelligibility. The low-mass HF/VHF diaphragm yields exceptional dynamic range, extended high-frequency response, and lower distortion. The dual-15-inch LF-4215 enclosure is heavily braced MDF.
Low-distortion waveguides deliver articulate dialogue, and a shallow 20-inch depth facilitates behind-screen installation. As part of the QSC DCS ecosystem, the SC-424 integrates with QSC cinema subwoofers, surrounds, amplifiers, and processors. For a single-15-inch version see the QSC SC-414; for a 4x15-inch system, the QSC SC-444.
Key Features
- Four-way tri/quad-amplified system — Operates in selectable tri- or quad-amplified configurations for maximum control and headroom.
- Coaxial neodymium HF/VHF driver — A low-mass HF/VHF diaphragm provides exceptional dynamic range, extended high-frequency response, and lower distortion.
- Single-element dialogue range — The horn-loaded 10-inch midrange operates from about 250 Hz with a crossover up to 1800 Hz, reproducing most of the dialogue range from one element.
- Driver protection — A protection network prevents low-frequency signals from damaging the HF and VHF driver.
- LF-4215 dual-15 enclosure — Heavily braced MDF construction delivers solid low-frequency output.
- Low-distortion waveguides — Provide highly articulate dialogue for intelligible cinema playback.
- Shallow 20-inch depth — Reduces required behind-screen clearance to facilitate installation.
Typical Applications
- Auditorium
- Broadcast studio
- Multi-purpose room

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between tri-amp and quad-amp operation?
In tri-amp mode the MHV-1090 uses its internal passive crossover between the HF and VHF sections; quad-amp mode drives the LF, MF, HF, and VHF sections from separate amplifier channels via an external cinema processor for maximum control.
How does the coaxial HF/VHF driver help?
Its low-mass diaphragm improves dynamic range, extends high-frequency response, and lowers distortion compared with conventional single-diaphragm designs.
How does the SC-424 differ from the SC-414 and SC-444?
The SC-424 pairs the MHV-1090 with a dual-15-inch LF-4215; the SC-414 uses a single-15-inch LF-4115, and the SC-444 uses two LF-4215 enclosures for a 4x15-inch system.
