Product Overview
The NETGEAR WBE708 is a BE5000-class dual-band WiFi 7 access point for commercial deployment, managed through NETGEAR Insight, NETGEAR Engage or a standalone local web interface. It carries a single 2.5G PoE+ uplink, so data and power arrive on one Cat cable and the access point does not need a local outlet above the ceiling. Radios are 2x2 on 2.4 GHz and 2x2 on 5 GHz with multi-link operation and 4K-QAM. A four-year NETGEAR Insight subscription is included.
Product Description
Be clear on the band configuration before specifying this model. The WBE708 is genuinely dual-band — 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz only, with no 6 GHz radio. Most WiFi 7 access points are tri-band, so a design that assumes a 6 GHz layer for high-density client traffic or for backhaul needs a different model. What WiFi 7 brings here instead is multi-link operation across the two bands, 4K-QAM, OFDMA, MU-MIMO and BSS coloring, which together improve behaviour in congested 2.4 and 5 GHz environments rather than adding spectrum.
The single 2.5G PoE+ port is the specification that matters most for installation planning. It removes the gigabit ceiling on the uplink, and 2.5GBASE-T generally runs over installed Cat5e, so upgrading an existing cabled ceiling position is usually a switch-side change. Power is 802.3at PoE+, which most commercial PoE switches supply without a budget conversation — the MS510TXUP multi-gig PoE++ switch is the pairing NETGEAR itself uses in its example topology. There is a DC input as an alternative, but note that no power adapter ships in the box.
Management is flexible, which matters on mixed estates. The access point runs standalone from a local web GUI with no cloud dependency, or under NETGEAR Insight for cloud management from the app and portal, or under NETGEAR Engage where an Align Controller is deployed. A four-year Insight subscription is included with the unit, so cloud management is available from day one without a separate licence purchase. Instant Mesh is supported for extending coverage where a cabled position is not available.
For commercial segmentation the essentials are present: up to eight SSIDs, 802.1Q VLAN support, SSID isolation and a dedicated guest SSID with VLAN isolation. Security covers WPA3 Personal, WPA2 Personal and WPA3/WPA2 mixed mode — worth checking against the client requirement, because NETGEAR does not publish WPA3 Enterprise or 802.1X/RADIUS support for this model. Client capacity is published as 150 maximum connected and 75 maximum concurrent active, which places it in small-to-medium rooms rather than high-density lecture theatres.
Physically it is a 160 mm square, 32 mm deep unit at 0.69 kg, with a mounting bracket in the box for solid wall or ceiling and for 9/16 inch and 15/16 inch T-bar. NETGEAR does not publish a plenum rating for this model, so do not specify it into a plenum space on that basis. Operating range is 0° to 40°C and the unit carries NETGEAR's Enterprise limited lifetime hardware warranty, with Sprint and Overdrive coverage available separately through the WBE708 support contract. Where a tri-band WiFi 7 access point or higher client density is required, the WBE718 and WBE758 sit above this model in the same family.
Key Features
- BE5000 dual-band WiFi 7 — 802.11be on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, backward compatible with 802.11ax, ac, a, b, g and n.
- 2x2 on both bands with MLO — Multi-link operation runs traffic across both radios rather than pinning a client to one.
- 4K-QAM modulation — NETGEAR publishes a speed increase of up to 20% over WiFi 6 from the higher modulation order.
- Single 2.5G PoE+ uplink — One Cat cable carries both data and power, removing the gigabit ceiling on the uplink.
- 802.3at PoE+ powered — Draws power from standard commercial PoE+ switches, with a DC input as an alternative.
- Four-year Insight subscription included — Cloud management is available from commissioning without a separate licence purchase.
- Three management modes — Runs under NETGEAR Insight, under NETGEAR Engage, or standalone from a local web GUI.
- Up to eight SSIDs with 802.1Q VLANs — Separates corporate, AV and guest traffic, with SSID isolation and a dedicated guest network.
- WPA3 and mixed-mode security — Supports WPA3 Personal, WPA2 Personal and WPA3/WPA2 mixed mode for staged migrations.
- Instant Mesh capability — Extends coverage to positions where running a cable is impractical.
- Wall, ceiling and T-bar mounting — The included bracket covers solid surfaces and both 9/16 in and 15/16 in T-bar.
- Limited lifetime warranty — Backed by NETGEAR's Enterprise limited lifetime hardware warranty.

Specifications sourced from NETGEAR published documentation for this model. NETGEAR's datasheet and product page state different per-band and aggregate throughput figures for the WBE708, so no throughput rate is quoted here — contact us if a specific figure is needed for a submittal. NETGEAR does not publish a plenum rating, coverage area, PoE wattage or WPA3 Enterprise support for this model.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the WBE708 dual-band or tri-band?
Dual-band. It has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios only, with no 6 GHz radio, which NETGEAR confirms across its datasheet, product page and installation guide. If the design depends on a 6 GHz layer, specify a tri-band model such as the WBE718 or WBE758 instead.
What does it need from the switch?
One 2.5G port supplying 802.3at PoE+. NETGEAR does not publish a wattage figure for this model, so confirm the PoE budget against the switch if several access points share it. NETGEAR's own example topology pairs it with the MS510TXUP.
Is a power adapter supplied?
No. The box contains the access point and mounting brackets only. It is designed to run on PoE+; if a DC supply is required, the optional adapter is part number 272-14741-01, ordered separately.
Does it require an Insight subscription to work?
No. The access point runs standalone from its local web GUI with no cloud dependency. A four-year Insight subscription is included if you want cloud management, and it can alternatively be managed by NETGEAR Engage where an Align Controller is deployed.
Does it support WPA3 Enterprise or 802.1X authentication?
NETGEAR publishes WPA3 Personal, WPA2 Personal and WPA3/WPA2 mixed mode for this model. WPA3 Enterprise and 802.1X/RADIUS are not published, so do not assume them where a client mandates enterprise authentication — contact us to confirm before specifying.
How does it integrate with an AV network?
Up to eight SSIDs with 802.1Q VLAN tagging and SSID isolation let wireless traffic be mapped onto the same VLAN scheme as the wired AV network, with a dedicated guest SSID kept isolated. Where an Align Controller is present, Engage manages the access point alongside the AV switches from one interface.
Can it be installed in a plenum space?
NETGEAR does not publish a plenum rating for the WBE708, so it should not be specified into a plenum air handling space on that basis. Confirm the requirement with the local authority and contact us if a plenum-rated access point is needed.
What warranty and support coverage applies?
The unit carries NETGEAR's Enterprise limited lifetime hardware warranty. Sprint (24/5) and Overdrive (24/7) support contracts are available separately in one, three and five year terms through the WBE708 support contract.
