Product Overview

The Meyer Sound UPQ-D2 is a full-size self-powered point source loudspeaker with a focused symmetrical coverage pattern for precise, long-throw reinforcement. Its 50-degree horizontal by 50-degree vertical Constant-Q horn concentrates output for deep audience areas and arrayable clusters, making it well suited to auditoriums, houses of worship, and multi-purpose performance spaces. A 15-inch neodymium cone driver and 4-inch diaphragm compression driver are powered by an onboard two-channel Class D amplifier rated at 2250 W peak. This 3-pin input version uses a standard XLR connection for straightforward integration into analog signal chains.

Product Description

Meyer Sound UPQ-D2 15-inch 2-way active point source loudspeaker

The UPQ-D2 shares the UPQ-D platform but provides a focused symmetrical pattern that supports precise coverage and arrayability in horizontal or vertical clusters. Its Constant-Q horn delivers 50-degree horizontal by 50-degree vertical coverage at the -6 dB points, widening to 60 by 60 degrees at the -10 dB points with uniform attenuation outside the pattern. The vented trapezoidal enclosure is built from premium multi-ply birch with a textured black finish, an integral 38 mm pole-mount receptacle, and 6061-T6 aluminum end plates with M10 threaded rigging points. For wider horizontal coverage, consider the UPQ-D1, or for a wide symmetrical pattern the UPQ-D3; the full range is available in the Meyer Sound collection. Low-frequency extension can be added with a companion subwoofer such as the Meyer Sound 750-LFC. QuickFly rigging is supported through the MPA-UPQ array plate and MYA-UPQ mounting yoke.

Key Features

  • Focused Symmetrical Pattern — The 50-degree by 50-degree Constant-Q horn affords precise coverage and arrayability in horizontal or vertical clusters.
  • Constant-Q Horn — Consistent beamwidth in both planes provides uniform response and predictable coverage throughout the pattern.
  • High Output — A linear peak SPL of 138 dB supports long-throw and high-headroom applications.
  • 15-inch Neodymium LF Driver — A high-power 15-inch neodymium cone driver delivers strong low-frequency output with reduced weight.
  • Class D Amplification — An onboard two-channel Class D amplifier provides 2250 W peak output with low distortion.
  • 3-Pin XLR Input — A standard XLR 3-pin female input with male loop output simplifies analog signal distribution.
  • Versatile Rigging — An integral pole-mount receptacle and M10 aluminum end plates support QuickFly rigging accessories.

Typical Applications

  • Auditorium and theatrical sound reinforcement
  • House of worship main and longer-throw systems
  • Multi-purpose performance rooms
  • Government and civic assembly spaces
  • All-hands and large meeting venues

Competitor Comparison

Criteria Meyer Sound UPQ-D2 L-Acoustics X15 HiQ d&b E12
Format The UPQ-D2 is a self-powered two-way point source with a 15-inch low-frequency driver and onboard amplification. The X15 HiQ is a passive 15-inch coaxial point source requiring external L-Acoustics amplification. The E12 is a passive 12-inch two-way point source driven by an external d&b amplifier.
Amplification Amplification and processing are built into the UPQ-D2 enclosure. The X15 HiQ relies on external amplifier controllers for power and processing. The E12 relies on external d&b amplifiers for power and processing.
Coverage The UPQ-D2 provides a focused 50-degree by 50-degree symmetrical Constant-Q pattern for precise, long-throw coverage. The X15 HiQ offers a rotatable 40-degree by 60-degree pattern. The E12 offers a rotatable 75-degree by 40-degree pattern.
Maximum Output The UPQ-D2 reaches a 138 dB linear peak SPL for high-headroom applications. The X15 HiQ output depends on the specified external amplifier configuration. The E12 output depends on the specified external amplifier configuration.
Monitoring The UPQ-D2 supports the optional RMS remote monitoring system through Compass software. The X15 HiQ provides monitoring through its external amplified controllers. The E12 provides monitoring through its external d&b amplifiers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What coverage pattern does the UPQ-D2 provide?
It uses a focused 50-degree horizontal by 50-degree vertical symmetrical Constant-Q horn at the -6 dB points, widening to 60 by 60 degrees at the -10 dB points.

How does the UPQ-D2 differ from the UPQ-D1 and UPQ-D3?
The UPQ-D2 offers a focused 50 by 50 degree pattern, the UPQ-D1 a wide 80 by 50 degree pattern, and the UPQ-D3 a wide symmetrical 80 by 80 degree pattern.

Is the UPQ-D2 self-powered?
Yes. It includes a two-channel Class D amplifier rated at 2250 W peak with onboard processing, so no external amplifier is required.

Can I add a subwoofer?
Yes. A companion subwoofer such as the Meyer Sound 750-LFC can extend low-frequency response for full-range systems.
