Product Overview

The Meyer Sound UPM-1XP is a compact, externally powered wide-coverage loudspeaker that pairs IntelligentDC technology with the proven acoustic performance of the UPM platform. It delivers the same high sound pressure levels, low distortion, and symmetrical 100° by 100° coverage as the AC-powered UPM-1P, while drawing both 48 V DC power and balanced audio over a single cable. This configuration uses a sealed SwitchCraft EN3 5-pin male connector, well suited to permanent installations and demanding cable routing. It is an effective choice for frontfill, under-balcony delay, and vocal reinforcement where AC conduit is impractical.

Product Description

Meyer Sound UPM-1XP 2x5 inch IntelligentDC loudspeaker with EN-3 connector

The UPM-1XP combines two 5-inch low-frequency cone drivers with a 1-inch metal dome tweeter on a constant-directivity horn, all driven by a three-channel class D amplifier with active crossover, phase correction, and driver protection. The two woofers operate in parallel at low frequencies, with one rolling off above 320 Hz to suppress comb filtering and maintain consistent midrange response. Using IntelligentDC, the loudspeaker receives DC power and balanced audio from a single connector and tolerates voltage drops, allowing light-gauge cabling and runs up to 150 feet with only 1 dB of peak SPL loss using 18 AWG wire. It requires a Meyer Sound IntelligentDC external power supply such as the MPS-482HP or MPS-488HP. For the AC-powered equivalent, see the Meyer Sound UPM-1P, and add the Meyer Sound 750-LFC subwoofer for full-range output. Explore the full Meyer Sound collection at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • IntelligentDC Technology — A single cable carries both 48 V DC power and balanced audio, eliminating AC conduit while preserving the benefits of a self-powered system.
  • Sealed EN3 Connector — This configuration uses a sealed SwitchCraft EN3 5-pin male connector suited to permanent and demanding installation environments.
  • UltraCompact Enclosure — The trapezoidal birch cabinet measures 6.85 inches wide by 18 inches tall and weighs 17 lb for discreet placement.
  • Three-Channel Amplification — An integrated class D amplifier with 650 W peak output drives the two 5-inch woofers and 1-inch tweeter with onboard processing.
  • Point-Source Crossover — One woofer rolls off above 320 Hz to eliminate comb filtering and preserve a uniform midrange across the coverage area.
  • Wide Symmetrical Coverage — Matched 100° horizontal and 100° vertical coverage maintains consistent directional control over broad listening areas.
  • Long Cable Runs — The amplifier stores DC power and tolerates voltage drops, supporting light-gauge cable and runs up to 150 feet with minimal SPL loss.
  • Low Distortion — THD, IM, and TIM distortion remain below 0.02 percent for clean reproduction of speech and program material.

Typical Applications

  • House of Worship — Delivers intelligible vocal reinforcement and frontfill from a discreet cabinet with simplified cabling in permanent installations.
  • Auditorium — Functions as a frontfill or under-balcony delay loudspeaker where running AC conduit to each position is impractical.
  • Government Space — Provides clear voice reinforcement in chambers and assembly areas with centralized power supplies and minimal visible cabling.
  • Commercial Meeting Space — Reinforces presentations with uniform coverage and low distortion while keeping power distribution centralized.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the UPM-1XP need a separate power supply?
Yes. The UPM-1XP requires a Meyer Sound IntelligentDC external power supply, such as the MPS-482HP or MPS-488HP, which delivers 48 V DC and balanced audio over a single cable.

What is the difference between the UPM-1XP and the UPM-1P?
The UPM-1XP uses IntelligentDC for externally supplied DC power and audio over one cable, while the UPM-1P is AC powered with a built-in supply and a 3-pin XLR input.

What connector does this version use?
This configuration uses a sealed SwitchCraft EN3 5-pin male connector carrying both 48 V DC power and balanced audio.

How long can the cable runs be?
Composite cables such as Belden 1502 can deliver power and audio up to 150 feet with about 1 dB of peak SPL loss using 18 AWG wire, with longer runs possible using heavier gauge.

What warranty applies?
This product is covered under Meyer Sound's standard product warranty. For details, please contact Creation Networks.
