Product Overview

The Listen Technologies LA-113-500 is a 500 ft spool of RG-8 50 ohm coaxial cable for RF assistive listening antenna runs. In a stationary RF installation the antenna is positioned for coverage rather than convenience, which means a cable run between the transmitter rack and the antenna position. The low-loss RG-8 construction is specified where that run is long enough for signal loss to matter. Supplied on a spool for field termination to the required length.

Product Description

Antenna placement determines RF coverage far more than transmitter power does, so the antenna goes where the coverage is needed and the cable follows.

Listen Technologies LA-113-500 rg-8 low-loss coaxial cable, 500 ft

Cable loss accumulates over distance and rises with frequency. RG-8 has lower loss per foot than RG-58, which is why it is specified for longer runs. On a short run the difference is immaterial and RG-58 is the economical choice; on a long run to a remote antenna position, RG-8 preserves signal that RG-58 would lose.

Supplied on a spool for field termination. Terminate with RG-8 BNC connectors, and use a BNC coupler where two runs have to be joined.

Where several transmitters share a single antenna, specify a 4-way or 6-way RF antenna combiner rather than running parallel antennas, which will interfere.

Key Features

  • RG-8 50 ohm construction — Matches the impedance of Listen RF transmitters and antennas.
  • Low-loss cable — Preserves signal over long antenna runs where RG-58 loss would become significant.
  • Supplied on a spool — Cut and terminated on site to the exact run length required.
  • BNC connector family — Uses the same connector standard as Listen stationary RF transmitters and antennas.

Typical Applications

  • Auditorium
  • House of worship
  • Conference room
  • Government space
  • Training room
  • Multi-purpose room
  • Commercial meeting space

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between RG-58 and RG-8?
By run length. RG-8 has lower loss per foot and is specified for long runs to a remote antenna. RG-58 is the economical choice where the run is short enough that accumulated loss is not the limiting factor.

Should I use preassembled or spool cable?
Preassembled removes field termination and the risk of a poorly made connector degrading the antenna path. Spool cable suits runs where the exact length is not known until first fix.

Can two runs be joined?
Yes, with a BNC coupler. Keep the number of joints to a minimum, since each is a potential point of loss and a future service item.

What connectors are required?
BNC connectors matched to the cable type — RG-8 in this case. Preassembled cables arrive terminated.

Can several transmitters share one antenna?
Yes, through an RF combiner. Running parallel antennas instead will cause interference between transmitters.

Where should the antenna be positioned?
Above and central to the seating area where the structure allows. Coverage depends far more on antenna placement than on transmitter power.

What warranty and support apply?
Contact Creation Networks for supply terms and RF design support on antenna cable schedules.
