What is the Kramer EXT3-U3-T USB 3.2 extender transmitter?

The Kramer EXT3-U3-T is the host-side transmitter of Kramer's EXT3-U3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 extender system. It connects to a PC, codec or room computer and converts its USB 3 signal to a CATx signal based on HDBaseT USB, carrying 5Gbps USB, RS-232 and an FSYNC camera synchronization signal up to 100m to an EXT3-U3-R receiver. It is aimed at high-throughput USB devices such as 4K conferencing cameras and capture devices that standard USB 2.0 extenders cannot carry.

How does the Kramer EXT3-U3-T work?

The EXT3-U3-T plugs into the USB host over a USB-B connection and sends the USB 3.2 Gen 1 traffic over one CAT cable. At the far end, the EXT3-U3-R converts it back and acts as a hub for up to three USB devices. The system supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 devices as well as legacy USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices.

It works as a plug-and-play device with no driver or configuration, and supports all USB transaction modes, including interrupt, bulk and isochronous transfers, which is what video streaming cameras rely on. RS-232 is extended in both directions for device control, and the FSYNC signal is passed for camera frame synchronization.

Power is delivered over the CATx cable, so only one end of the link needs a power source. The units can be sold together as the EXT3-U3-KIT or separately, and they can pair with other HDBaseT USB3 (VS6320-based) products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What receiver does the EXT3-U3-T need?

It pairs with the EXT3-U3-R receiver, which provides three USB device ports. Kramer also sells both as the EXT3-U3-KIT, and the units can pair with other HDBaseT USB3 (VS6320-based) products.

Will it work with a 4K USB conferencing camera?

Yes. It supports isochronous USB 3.2 Gen 1 transfers, which video streaming cameras use, and passes an FSYNC signal for camera frame synchronization.

Do I need power at both ends?

No. Power is delivered over the CATx cable, so one end needs a power source.

Does it need drivers?

No. It is plug and play with no prior configuration.

What are the USB 2.0 alternatives?

For USB 2.0 over the network, compare the Kramer KDS-USB2 kit. A typical camera pairing is the Kramer K-CAM4K PTZ camera, and the Kramer KRT-4-USB-3 retractor keeps USB 3 cabling tidy at the table.

Does Creation Networks install USB extension for conferencing?
