The design decision that separates the E500 from the rest of the range is screen area. Rather than splitting appearances across a primary and secondary display, it puts 12 line keys against one 5-inch colour LCD, with four context-sensitive soft keys beneath and a pagination key that brings additional lines and contacts into view up to 48 total assignments. That layout suits users who scan a monitored group quickly — support desks, trading floors, front-of-house — where reading two screens costs time. When a position needs more than 48, two Poly Edge E Expansion Modules can be attached, each carrying up to 66 additional contacts, which turns the set into an attendant console without changing the underlying phone.

Provisioning and network integration follow standard Open SIP practice for mass deployment: IETF SIP (RFC 3261) with SDP, manual or DHCP setup, SNTP time synchronisation, and central provisioning over FTP, FTPS, TFTP, HTTP, or HTTPS, with provisioning and call server redundancy where the call platform supports it.
