Product Overview
The Audio-Technica AT4050ST is a single-point stereo condenser microphone that captures wide, mono-compatible stereo from one position. It combines an independent cardioid element and a figure-of-eight element in a mid-side arrangement with switch-selectable internal matrixing, making it a versatile stereo condenser microphone for broadcast studios, auditoriums, and houses of worship. A shockmount is included for isolated mounting.
Product Description
The AT4050ST builds on the acclaimed AT4050 capsule, placing a cardioid (mid) and a figure-of-eight (side) element on a single axis so the stereo image is phase-coherent and collapses cleanly to mono. Internal matrixing lets an engineer output discrete mid-side or a switch-selected stereo width without an external matrix box.

Switchable 10 dB pad and 80 Hz high-pass filter let the microphone adapt to loud sources and control low-frequency rumble. It is well suited to room and ambience capture, ensembles, and overheads where a single-point stereo image is preferred.
For mono multi-pattern work, the AT4050 multi-pattern condenser shares the same element family, and the AT4047MP offers a vintage-voiced multi-pattern alternative. The AT4050ST requires 48V phantom power.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is mid-side stereo and why use it?
Mid-side places a forward cardioid (mid) and a sideways figure-of-eight (side) on one axis; matrixing the two yields a stereo image whose width can be adjusted and that collapses cleanly to mono, which is ideal for broadcast.
Do I need an external matrix box?
No. The AT4050ST includes switch-selectable internal matrixing, so it can output a ready stereo signal or discrete mid-side for matrixing at the console.
Does it require phantom power?
Yes. It requires 48V phantom power from your console, interface, or DSP.
What is it best used for?
Single-point stereo capture of rooms, ensembles, overheads, and ambience where a coherent, mono-compatible stereo image is needed.
Is a shockmount included?
Yes. A shockmount is supplied to isolate the microphone from stand and floor vibration.
