Product Overview

The Williams AV PPA T46 is a portable bodypack FM transmitter that broadcasts a presenter's voice on one of seventeen selectable channels in the 72-76 MHz hearing assistance band to listeners using R37, R37-8, or R38 receivers. With an OLED display, menu-driven controls, mic and auxiliary inputs, and up to 150 feet of range, it is the go-to mobile transmitter for classroom hearing assistance, tour groups, employee training, and business meetings where a fixed transmitter is impractical.

Product Description

The T46's 1.25-inch OLED interface displays master and aux volume levels, mic mute status, settings lock, and battery level, while three menu buttons give the operator access to microphone and auxiliary gain, 8- or 17-channel mode, compression (1:1 or 2:1), and display settings. A momentary push button on the top bezel handles power and one-touch microphone mute — a small detail presenters appreciate during sidebar conversations. A dual-preset mode lets the user switch between two transmitting channel configurations, each with its own channel and volume parameters, which is useful for instructors who move between rooms or interpreters alternating assignments.

The 3.5 mm mic input accepts electret lavalier and headset microphones (the mic cord doubles as the transmit antenna), and the 2.5 mm stereo aux input brings in program audio from a media player or other line source. Selectable 2:1 audio compression keeps speech intelligible across varying talker levels. The transmitter runs up to 30 hours on two AA alkaline batteries or up to 20 hours on NiMH rechargeables, and recharges in Williams Sound CHG 3502 or CHG 3512 drop-in chargers. It is FCC Part 15 compliant, meets ADA guidelines, and is made in the USA.

Complete the system with PPA R37 FM receivers, or consider the pre-packaged PFM PRO one-to-one system in the Williams AV collection at Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which microphones work with the T46?

The 3.5 mm mono mic input supplies bias voltage for electret microphones, including Williams Sound lavalier and headset mics. A microphone is not included and is sold separately.

Which receivers pair with the T46?

The T46 broadcasts to Williams Sound receivers including the PPA R37, R35, R35-8, R1600, and PFM-series receivers operating on the 72-76 MHz band. The switchable 8-channel mode aligns channel numbering with PPA R35-8 receiver fleets.

What is the practical operating range?

Nominal range is up to 150 feet (45 m) with a PPA R37 receiver — well suited to classrooms, meeting rooms, and walking tours. For large-area coverage up to 1,000 feet, specify a fixed transmitter such as the PPA T27 instead.

Can the T46 broadcast program audio along with the microphone?

Yes. The 2.5 mm stereo aux input accepts a media player or other line source via the included WCA 087 cable, with independent menu-adjustable gain for mic and aux signals.

Is the T46 rechargeable?

Yes, when fitted with AA NiMH batteries (BAT 026-2) and set to NiMH mode, the T46 recharges in Williams Sound CHG 3502 or CHG 3512 drop-in chargers in approximately 14-16 hours.

What warranty and compliance apply?

The T46 is FCC Part 15 compliant, holds a Grant of Certification under the FCC's 2016 auditory assistance emissions mandate, meets ADA guidelines, and carries the Williams AV Lifetime PLUS Limited Warranty with 90 days on accessories.
