Product Overview
The Williams AV IR SY22 D is a commercial-grade, large-area infrared assistive listening system built around the IR M1 D modulator with Dante audio networking. The package combines four IR E4 emitters and an IR A4 emitter array to flood expansive venues such as auditoriums and performing arts spaces with stable infrared coverage. Four WIR RX22-4N bodypack receivers, dual-bay chargers, earphones, and ADA signage are included, giving integrators a complete ADA-compliant assistive listening solution in a single SKU. For facilities that already run a Dante audio network, the SY22 D drops into the existing infrastructure without analog tie lines.
Product Description
At the head end, the IR M1 D infrared modulator occupies a single rack unit and accepts audio over Dante or through two combination XLR/quarter-inch TRS inputs that handle balanced or unbalanced line-level and microphone signals with selectable phantom power. DSP-based audio processing provides compression at 1:1, 1.5:1, or 2:1 along with high-pass and low-pass filtering, so speech intelligibility can be tuned to the room. Configuration is handled through an embedded web page, and an adjustable auto carrier shut-off conserves emitter life when no program audio is present.
Infrared distribution is where this system configuration stands apart from smaller IR+ packages: four IR E4 emitters plus the IR A4 array connect back to the modulator over standard Cat5e cable, which carries +48 VDC power, RS-485 control, and the baseband IR signal on a single run per emitter. Each IR E4 covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, so the four-emitter complement is sized for large halls, balconied auditoriums, and venues with irregular sight lines. Because infrared light does not pass through walls, adjacent rooms can run independent systems without interference, and program audio stays inside the room.
On the listening side, the four-channel WIR RX22-4N bodypack receivers run up to 60 hours on alkaline AA batteries and ship with lanyards and EAR 022 earphones; two BAT KT6 dual-bay charger kits keep rechargeable batteries in rotation. The included IDP 008 wall plaque documents assistive listening availability for ADA compliance. Browse the full Williams AV collection at Creation Networks for additional receivers and accessories, or compare the two-emitter IR SY21 D system for mid-size rooms.
Key Features
- Dante Audio Networking — The IR M1 D modulator accepts two channels of Dante audio directly from the facility network, eliminating analog cabling from the DSP to the assistive listening rack.
- Four-Emitter Large-Area Coverage — Four IR E4 emitters plus the IR A4 array deliver infrared coverage scaled for auditoriums and large assembly spaces, with each emitter rated up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode.
- Single-Cable Emitter Runs — Each emitter receives power, RS-485 communication, and the IR baseband signal over one Cat5e cable from the modulator's four RJ-45 ports, simplifying installation and conduit planning.
- Rack-Mount Head End — The 1RU IR M1 D integrates cleanly into an equipment rack alongside the rest of the AV system, with front-panel headphone jacks for monitoring both audio channels.
- DSP Audio Processing — Selectable compression ratios and high-pass/low-pass filtering optimize speech clarity for listeners with hearing loss.
- Browser-Based Configuration — An embedded web server allows remote setup, carrier selection, and diagnostics, including a 400 Hz internal test tone.
- Room-Contained Signal — Infrared transmission stays within the room, so multiple systems can operate in adjacent spaces without cross-talk.
- Complete ADA Package — Four WIR RX22-4N receivers, chargers, earphones, and IDP 008 signage are included to satisfy assistive listening compliance requirements out of the box.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Dante input integrate with my existing audio system?
The IR M1 D includes a Dante network interface that subscribes to two channels from any Dante-enabled DSP, mixer, or audio transport on the facility network. Analog XLR/TRS inputs remain available as an alternative or backup source.
How much area does the IR SY22 D cover?
Each IR E4 emitter is rated for up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, and this system includes four emitters plus the IR A4 array. Actual coverage depends on channel count, mounting height, and room geometry; running two channels reduces per-emitter coverage.
Why choose infrared over FM or Wi-Fi assistive listening?
Infrared light does not pass through walls, so the audio stays inside the room. That makes IR the preferred technology for courtrooms, government spaces, and any venue where adjacent rooms run separate programs or where signal containment matters.
Is this system ADA compliant?
The package includes four WIR RX22-4N receivers, two NKL-compatible earphone options via the 3.5 mm jack, and the IDP 008 assistive listening wall plaque. Verify required receiver counts against your venue's seating capacity under the ADA assistive listening tables; additional receivers and neckloops are available separately.
What cabling do the emitters require?
Each emitter connects to the modulator with a single Cat5e cable that carries power, RS-485 control, and the IR baseband signal. No local power outlet is needed at the emitter location.
What warranty applies?
Williams AV covers the modulator and emitters for 2 years and the WIR RX22-4N receivers for 5 years, with 90 days on accessories.
