Product Overview
The Williams AV IR ME2 is a large-area infrared assistive listening system built for venues that need wide, secure audio coverage and ADA compliance. The IR+ Flex package combines the IR M1 infrared modulator and Wi-Fi server with two IR E4 infrared emitters, an MLB 003 metal linking bar, and an IDP 008 ADA wall plaque. Each emitter covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, so the two-emitter configuration handles auditoriums, sanctuaries, and multi-zone rooms with balconies or wings. Because infrared cannot pass through walls, the system also suits courtrooms and other spaces that require confidential audio transmission.
Product Description
The system is anchored by the rack-mount IR M1 control center, a single rack unit modulator with two combination XLR/1/4-inch TRS inputs accepting balanced or unbalanced line-level signals or microphones with selectable phantom power. DSP-based processing offers selectable compression ratios and high-pass/low-pass filtering, while a built-in 400 Hz test tone and dual front-panel headphone jacks streamline commissioning and channel monitoring. The IR M1 doubles as a Wi-Fi audio server: connect it to a multicast-capable network and listeners can stream the program feed to their own smartphones through the free Williams AV WaveCAST app, supplementing the dedicated infrared receivers.
The two included IR E4 emitters each connect to the modulator over a single CAT5e cable that carries 48 VDC power, RS-485 communication, and the baseband infrared signal — no power outlets are needed at the emitter mounting locations. Mount both emitters together on the included MLB 003 linking bar for a concentrated array, or split them across the room to reach obscured seating areas. All configuration is available remotely through the modulator's embedded web interface, including an adjustable auto carrier shut-off that powers down the IR carrier when no audio is present. If your audio system runs on a Dante network, consider the Williams AV IR ME2 D with Dante, or explore the complete Williams AV collection for receivers and accessories.
Key Features
- Two-Emitter Large-Area Coverage — Each IR E4 emitter covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, giving the system the reach for auditoriums and sanctuaries.
- Flexible Emitter Placement — Emitters can be stacked on the included linking bar for a high-output array or distributed to cover balconies, wings, and obstructed sightlines.
- Single-Cable Emitter Runs — Power, RS-485 control, and baseband signal all travel over one CAT5e cable from the modulator's RJ-45 ports to each emitter.
- Wi-Fi Streaming Built In — The IR M1 streams program audio to the WaveCAST app on iOS and Android devices over the venue's multicast-enabled network.
- Secure In-Room Transmission — Infrared signals stay within the room, supporting confidential proceedings in courtrooms, boardrooms, and government facilities.
- Professional Audio Inputs — Two combination XLR/TRS inputs accept line-level or microphone sources with selectable phantom power for direct connection to mixers and DSPs.
- DSP Processing and Diagnostics — Selectable compression, filter controls, an internal test tone, and an IR test LED simplify tuning and verification.
- Remote Web Configuration — The embedded web interface manages all settings, including the auto carrier shut-off timer, from any browser on the network.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I connect the IR ME2 to my sound system?
Feed the IR M1 from your mixer or DSP using either of its two combination XLR/1/4-inch TRS inputs. The inputs handle balanced or unbalanced line-level signals, or microphone-level sources with selectable phantom power.
How much area do the two emitters cover?
Each IR E4 covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode. Stack both on the included MLB 003 linking bar for stronger coverage of one large zone, or distribute them to reach balconies, wings, or other obscured areas.
Can the IR ME2 be upgraded to Dante later?
Dante is a factory configuration on the IR M1 D modulator. If your project requires networked audio input, specify the IR ME2 D package, which includes the Dante-equipped modulator.
Do listeners need dedicated receivers?
Williams AV infrared receivers tuned to the system's carrier frequencies provide the primary listening path. Listeners can also stream over Wi-Fi to the free WaveCAST app on their own iOS or Android devices when the IR M1 is connected to a multicast-capable network.
How many emitters can the system support if the venue grows?
The IR M1 supports up to four IR E4 emitters directly, and up to 16 emitters with the addition of IR A4 emitter arrays, so the system scales with the venue.
What is the warranty?
The modulator and emitters carry a 2-year Williams AV warranty; included accessories are covered for 90 days.
