Product Overview

The Williams AV IR ME2 D is a Dante-enabled infrared assistive listening system designed for large-area ADA compliance in auditoriums, courtrooms, and houses of worship. This IR+ Flex package pairs the IR M1 D infrared modulator and Wi-Fi server with two IR E4 infrared emitters, an MLB 003 metal linking bar, and an IDP 008 ADA wall plaque. With each emitter covering up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, the two-emitter configuration supports wide or irregular rooms, balconies, and wings. Dante audio networking lets integrators feed the system directly from an existing digital audio network without analog tie lines.

Product Description

At the core of the IR ME2 D is the rack-mount IR M1 D control center, a single rack unit infrared modulator with built-in Dante input supporting two channels. In addition to Dante, the modulator accepts two analog sources through combination XLR/1/4-inch TRS jacks that handle balanced or unbalanced line-level signals or microphones with selectable phantom power, so it drops into virtually any commercial audio system. DSP-based audio processing provides selectable compression ratios and high-pass/low-pass filtering, and a 400 Hz internal test tone simplifies commissioning. The unit also functions as a Wi-Fi audio server: connected to a multicast-enabled network, it streams program audio to listeners' smartphones via the free Williams AV WaveCAST app, giving venues both infrared and Wi-Fi delivery from one chassis.

Infrared transmission is the preferred assistive listening technology where audio privacy matters, because the signal cannot pass through walls. The two included IR E4 emitters connect back to the modulator over single CAT5e runs that carry power, RS-485 control, and baseband signal — no local power at the emitter location. Emitters can be stacked on the included MLB 003 linking bar to form a high-output array, or distributed across the room to cover obstructed seating areas. Remote configuration is handled through the modulator's embedded web page, and dual front-panel headphone jacks allow channel monitoring during setup. The IDP 008 wall plaque documents assistive listening availability for ADA compliance. For a single-emitter version of this system, see the Williams AV IR ME1 D IR+ Combo with Dante, or browse the full Williams AV assistive listening collection.

Key Features

  • Dante Audio Networking — The IR M1 D modulator includes a two-channel Dante input, allowing direct integration with networked audio systems over standard Ethernet infrastructure.
  • Dual Transmission Modes — One control center delivers audio over both infrared and Wi-Fi, streaming to the WaveCAST app on listeners' own iOS and Android devices.
  • Two-Emitter Coverage — Each IR E4 emitter covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, and the pair can be stacked or distributed to suit the room layout.
  • Single-Cable Emitter Runs — Each emitter receives 48 VDC power, RS-485 communication, and baseband signal over one CAT5e cable up to the modulator's RJ-45 ports.
  • Secure In-Room Audio — Infrared signals do not penetrate walls, making the system suitable for courtrooms, boardrooms, and other venues that require confidential audio.
  • DSP Audio Processing — Selectable compression (1:1, 1.5:1, 2:1) and adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters tailor intelligibility to the program material.
  • Browser-Based Management — An embedded web interface provides remote configuration, auto carrier shut-off scheduling, and system diagnostics from anywhere on the network.
  • ADA Compliance Package — The included IDP 008 wall plaque signals assistive listening availability, supporting ADA compliance documentation for public venues.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Dante input integrate with my existing audio system?

The IR M1 D appears as a two-channel Dante receiver on the network. Route program audio to it from any Dante-enabled DSP, mixer, or audio interface using Dante Controller — no analog wiring is required between the rack and the assistive listening system.

How much area does the IR ME2 D cover?

Each of the two included IR E4 emitters covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode. Emitters can be stacked on the included linking bar for higher output in one zone or distributed to separate areas such as balconies or side wings.

What receivers do listeners use with this system?

Listeners use Williams AV infrared receivers tuned to the system's selectable carrier frequencies (2.3/2.8 or 3.3/3.8 MHz). Because the IR M1 D also streams over Wi-Fi, listeners can alternatively use their own smartphones with the free WaveCAST app on iOS or Android.

Can I add more emitters later?

Yes. The IR M1 D modulator supports up to four IR E4 emitters directly through its four RJ-45 ports, and up to 16 emitters when expanded with IR A4 emitter arrays.

Does this system satisfy ADA assistive listening requirements?

The IR ME2 D provides large-area assistive listening coverage and includes the IDP 008 ADA wall plaque for required signage. Receiver counts needed for full ADA compliance depend on venue seating capacity, so verify quantities against ADA guidelines for your space.

What warranty applies?

Williams AV covers the modulator and emitters with a 2-year warranty; included accessories carry a 90-day warranty.
