The Williams AV FM R38 is a multi-channel FM assistive listening receiver with a high-resolution OLED screen, supplied as a complete kit with an EAR 022 surround earphone and AA alkaline batteries. On-screen channel selection gives quick access to all 17 preset wideband frequencies in the 72–76 MHz hearing assistance band, and the receiver works with every Williams Sound 72–76 MHz wideband transmitter. The standout feature of the R38 is its 1-inch high-resolution OLED display, which gives staff and listeners a quick view of receiver status — channel or frequency, digital volume level, and a 4-step battery indicator — plus immediate entry to all user settings through the on-screen menu. A step/seek function lets users increment channels manually or seek directly to the next active channel, and channel-lock capability keeps loaned receivers on the house frequency during events.

Audio is digitally synthesized for clear, stable reception, with digital tuning, digital squelch, and a battery-saving sleep mode with auto-off. Soft audio turn-on avoids startling listeners when the unit powers up. The R38 adds a stereo headphone jack alongside mono compatibility, broadening support for earphones, headphones, and neckloops — including telecoil neckloops for hearing aid users. The included EAR 022 around-ear earphone delivers 118 dB sensitivity from a 23 mm driver.

Like the rest of the Williams Sound body-pack line, the R38 is housed in impact-resistant PC/ABS plastic — here with an aluminum faceplate — with a hinged battery door, detachable belt clip, and a slide switch to select alkaline or NiMH rechargeable battery operation. Base charging contacts work with CHG 3502 and CHG 3512 drop-in chargers. Runtime is approximately 50 hours on AA alkaline cells or 32 hours on NiMH rechargeables. The receiver requires a 72–76 MHz transmitter and is FCC-approved for U.S. markets.
