Product Overview

The Williams AV PPA R38-20 is a 20-pack FM receiver bundle that equips a venue with twenty FM R38 multi-channel assistive listening receivers, each with an EAR 022 surround earphone and AA alkaline batteries. It is the efficient way to meet ADA receiver-count requirements in auditoriums, theaters, houses of worship, and government assembly spaces — ADA Section 219 ties the required number of assistive listening receivers to seating capacity, and large venues routinely need twenty or more. Every receiver tunes all 17 preset wideband channels in the 72–76 MHz hearing assistance band and works with any Williams Sound 72–76 MHz transmitter.

Product Description

Outfitting a large venue's assistive listening program one receiver at a time is inefficient; the PPA R38-20 bundles a full fleet in one SKU at a per-unit savings. The FM R38 inside is the current-generation Williams Sound body-pack receiver, distinguished by a 1-inch high-resolution OLED display that gives staff a quick view of receiver status — channel or frequency, digital volume, and a 4-step battery level — plus on-screen menu access to all user settings.

Reception is digitally synthesized for clarity and stability, with digital tuning, digital squelch, and a battery-saving sleep mode. A step/seek function moves between channels manually or seeks the next active broadcast, and channel-lock capability keeps publicly loaned receivers parked on the house frequency — critical when ushers hand out twenty units before a performance. The stereo 3.5 mm jack alongside mono compatibility supports a wide range of earphones, headphones, and telecoil neckloops for hearing aid users.

Each receiver has a slide switch to select alkaline or NiMH rechargeable battery operation and base charging contacts compatible with Williams Sound CHG 3502 and CHG 3512 drop-in chargers, so the fleet can transition to rechargeable operation as the program matures. Runtime is approximately 50 hours on AA alkaline cells or 32 hours on NiMH rechargeables. Every component in the bundle — receivers, EAR 022 earphones, and BAT 001-2 battery packs — can also be purchased individually for replacement stock. Note: the receivers require a transmitter operating on 72–76 MHz and are FCC-approved for U.S. markets.

Pair the fleet with a Williams AV FM T55C FM+ transmitter for venue-wide coverage up to 1,000 feet, and find chargers, neckloops, and replacement earphones in the Williams AV collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many assistive listening receivers does my venue need?

ADA Section 219 scales required receiver counts with assembly area seating capacity — for example, venues with 501 to 1,000 seats need 20 receivers plus 1 per 33 seats over 500, with a portion hearing aid compatible. The R38-20 bundle covers the base requirement for many mid-size auditoriums in one purchase.

What transmitter do these receivers require?

Any Williams Sound transmitter operating in the 72–76 MHz wideband range, including the FM T55C/T55CD FM+ series, PPA T45, and PPA T27. The receivers tune all 17 preset wideband channels in that band.

Are the receivers hearing aid compatible?

Yes, when paired with a telecoil neckloop such as the NKL 001 (sold separately), which plugs into the receiver's 3.5 mm jack and couples inductively to telecoil-equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants. The ADA expects a percentage of provided receivers to be hearing aid compatible.

Can the fleet be converted to rechargeable operation?

Yes. Every R38 has a battery-type slide switch and base charging contacts for Williams Sound CHG 3502 (2-bay) and CHG 3512 (12-bay) drop-in chargers, so the fleet can move to AA NiMH rechargeables without hardware changes.

Can I buy replacement earphones and batteries separately?

Yes. The PPA R38N receiver, EAR 022 earphone, and BAT 001-2 battery packs are all available individually, which simplifies maintaining a sanitary earphone program and replacement stock.

What warranty applies to the bundle?

Each receiver carries the Williams AV Lifetime PLUS Limited Warranty, with 90 days of coverage on most accessories such as earphones and batteries. Creation Networks can assist with fleet planning, charger sizing, and ADA compliance documentation.
