Product Overview
The Visix Choros Gateway for Availability Lights is the required LoRaWAN network gateway that bridges communication between Choros Availability Lights and the Choros cloud platform. Every facility deploying Choros Availability Lights must include at least one gateway — without it, the lights cannot receive real-time booking status updates from the Choros cloud. The gateway receives space availability data from the Choros cloud over an internet-connected Ethernet connection and transmits that data wirelessly to all Availability Lights within its coverage area using LoRaWAN, a long-range, low-power wireless protocol purpose-built for IoT devices. One gateway is designed to cover a floor or facility area, providing the infrastructure backbone for a complete Choros LoRaWAN availability light deployment.
Product Description
The Choros LoRaWAN gateway is the central communication hub for any Choros Availability Light installation. Choros Availability Lights (SKU: VX-A-AVA) display real-time red/green room status based on live booking data from the Choros cloud platform, but they cannot communicate directly with the cloud — they rely on the gateway to relay that status information over LoRaWAN to every light in range. The gateway connects to the facility network via a standard wired Ethernet connection and communicates outbound to the Choros cloud. Inbound, it broadcasts status updates to all paired Availability Lights via LoRaWAN, covering the facility without requiring network drops or cabling at each individual light location.
LoRaWAN is specifically engineered for this use case: it provides long-range wireless coverage for low-bandwidth IoT devices, penetrates walls and floors effectively, and operates on unlicensed spectrum without competing with corporate Wi-Fi. This means your corporate wireless network is not burdened with Availability Light traffic, and the lights themselves do not require Wi-Fi credentials or IT network onboarding. A single gateway can serve a multi-room floor or building section, depending on the physical environment. Large facilities or multi-floor buildings may require additional gateways to ensure full coverage — contact Creation Networks for a site-specific assessment. Each Availability Light in the deployment must also have an active Annual License for Availability Light (SKU: VX-A-LAV). The Choros Availability Light hardware is purchased separately at creationnetworks.net/products/visix-choros-availability-light. Optional accessories include the PoE Adapter (VX-A-PEA) and Wall Mount Bracket (VX-A-ABK).
Key Features
- Required for All Availability Light Deployments — Every facility deploying Choros Availability Lights needs at least one gateway to enable LoRaWAN communication between the lights and the Choros cloud.
- LoRaWAN Wireless Protocol — Uses LoRaWAN to deliver long-range, low-power wireless communication to all Availability Lights in its coverage area, penetrating walls and floors effectively.
- Facility-Level Coverage — One gateway is designed to cover a floor or facility area, reducing the number of network infrastructure devices required in a deployment.
- Wired Ethernet Connection — Connects to your facility network via standard wired Ethernet for a reliable, consistent connection to the Choros cloud.
- No Wi-Fi Load on Corporate Network — Availability Light traffic is handled via LoRaWAN, not Wi-Fi, keeping corporate wireless networks free from additional IoT device load.
- Choros Cloud Integration — Receives real-time space availability data from the Choros cloud platform and relays it to all paired Availability Lights in real time.
- Scalable Architecture — Additional gateways can be added for large facilities or multi-floor buildings to extend LoRaWAN coverage as needed.
- No On-Premise Server Required — The gateway communicates directly with the Choros cloud; no local server infrastructure is needed to operate the Availability Light network.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the gateway required, or is it optional?
The gateway is required for every Choros Availability Light deployment. Availability Lights communicate with the Choros cloud exclusively through the LoRaWAN gateway — there is no alternative communication path for the lights.
How many gateways does my facility need?
Most single-floor facilities or moderate-sized office environments require one gateway. Large facilities, multi-floor buildings, or locations with significant RF attenuation from walls and structural elements may require additional gateways. Contact Creation Networks with your floor plan for a coverage assessment.
Where does the gateway connect to the network?
The gateway connects to your facility network via a standard wired Ethernet connection and communicates outbound to the Choros cloud over your internet connection. No special network configuration is required beyond standard outbound internet access.
Does the gateway use Wi-Fi?
The gateway itself connects via Ethernet, not Wi-Fi. The Availability Lights communicate with the gateway via LoRaWAN, a separate wireless protocol that does not use or burden your corporate Wi-Fi network.
Does the gateway require any on-premise server?
No. The gateway communicates directly with the Choros cloud platform. No local server, middleware, or on-premise software is required to operate the gateway or the Availability Light network.
What else do I need to complete an Availability Light deployment?
Beyond the gateway, each Availability Light (VX-A-AVA) requires an Annual License for Availability Light (VX-A-LAV) for ongoing cloud platform access. Optional accessories include the PoE Adapter (VX-A-PEA) for wired power and the Wall Mount Bracket (VX-A-ABK) for wall installation.
