Product Overview
The Shure MXA901B-R is the black-finish Microflex Advance ceiling array microphone, engineered for commercial conferencing environments where aesthetics demand a darker ceiling profile. Single-Zone Automatic Coverage technology captures all talkers across a 20 x 20-foot area without manual zone configuration, making it well-suited for boardrooms, conference rooms, training rooms, and government meeting spaces with dark or black ceiling treatments. Onboard IntelliMix DSP delivers acoustic echo cancellation, noise reduction, and automatic gain control over a single Dante/AES67 network connection. The round 13.5-inch form factor carries a UL2043 plenum rating and integrates cleanly into commercial ceiling installations.
Product Description
The Shure MXA901B-R ceiling array microphone deploys 85 MEMS elements to deliver 100 Hz–20 kHz frequency response and 24-bit/48 kHz audio over Dante or AES67. Power and signal run over a single Cat 5e (or better) Ethernet cable via PoE (Class 0, 10.1 W max), eliminating separate power runs and simplifying rack infrastructure. Configurable through Shure Designer software or the embedded web application, integrators can adjust coverage zones, tune IntelliMix DSP parameters, and manage firmware centrally across multi-room deployments. Microsoft Teams and Zoom Rooms certified, it connects directly to UC platforms via an ANIUSB-MATRIX or P300-IMX processor. This variant (SKU: MXA901B-R-GM-V) ships with GM-series ceiling mounting hardware (accessory code A901B-R-GM) for ceiling installation in black-finish environments. For an all-in-one ceiling microphone and loudspeaker solution, see the Shure MXA902W-S Integrated Ceiling Array. For linear array installations, see the Shure MXA710AL Linear Array Microphone.
Key Features
- Black Finish for Dark Ceiling Environments — The B-suffix denotes the black finish variant, designed to blend with black or dark drop ceilings in commercial AV spaces.
- Single-Zone Automatic Coverage — Captures talkers across a 20 x 20-foot (6.1 x 6.1 m) area with no manual zone programming, reducing setup time in standard conference room deployments.
- 85 MEMS Microphone Array — Next-generation array architecture provides natural speech pickup with enhanced directional response across a 100 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range.
- Onboard IntelliMix DSP — Full suite onboard including AEC (up to 250 ms tail), noise reduction, automatic mixing, AGC, compressor, parametric EQ (4-band), and delay — no external DSP required in most deployments.
- Dante and AES67 Audio Networking — Delivers 24-bit/48 kHz digital audio at 33.5 ms latency over standard IP infrastructure via a single Cat 5e or higher Ethernet cable.
- PoE Powered — Class 0 Power over Ethernet at 10.1 W max eliminates dedicated power runs and simplifies infrastructure in distributed commercial AV installations.
- UL2043 Plenum Rated — Qualified for installation in air handling spaces per UL2043, meeting commercial building code requirements (IEC 60529 IP5X dust protection).
- Microsoft Teams and Zoom Certified — Native integration with leading UC platforms for straightforward deployment in IT-managed enterprise environments.
- Enterprise Security — 802.1x network authentication, AES encryption for audio and control data, and secure boot/storage support deployment in government and enterprise spaces.
- Shure Designer Software — Centralized multi-device configuration with auto-route audio, firmware management, and remote coverage adjustment across an entire facility.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between MXA901W-R and MXA901B-R?
The W and B designations indicate White and Black finish respectively. All audio specifications, DSP capabilities, and networking features are identical. The black variant is chosen for aesthetic compatibility with dark or black ceiling treatments in commercial spaces.
Does this require an external DSP?
No. Onboard IntelliMix DSP includes AEC, noise reduction, automatic mixing, AGC, compressor, parametric EQ, and delay. For UC platform integration, an ANIUSB-MATRIX or P300-IMX provides the USB/analog bridge.
What network infrastructure is required?
A PoE-capable switch (standard 802.3af, Class 0) and Cat 5e or higher Ethernet cabling. A single RJ45 connection carries power, audio, and control.
Is this compatible with Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms?
Yes, the MXA901B-R is certified for both Microsoft Teams and Zoom Rooms, integrating via ANIUSB-MATRIX or P300-IMX for USB or analog connectivity.
Does this support enterprise security requirements?
Yes. It supports 802.1x authentication, AES encryption for audio and control data, and secure boot/storage for government and enterprise deployments.
