What is the RDL TX-PD8X?
The RDL TX-PD8X distributes 24 Vdc power from a current-limited switching supply to up to eight modules. It provides soft-start, reverse voltage protection and switchable outputs in AV racks and distributed audio systems.
How does it work?
Many switching supplies shut down at power-up when a high-current capacitive load is connected, so the TX-PD8X ramps the voltage up to charge load capacitance before switching full voltage to the load. If reverse polarity is connected to the input, it disconnects the load until the condition is corrected. A front-panel switch enables external control, so the outputs activate when the ON terminal is grounded by RDL modules, open-collector outputs or a D-RT2 remote. Total load must not exceed 2 A, and RDL offers 24 Vdc supplies such as the PS-24V3A.
What are the key features?
- Eight power distribution points — One switching supply feeds up to eight modules with individual power wiring.
- Soft-start — The voltage ramps up to charge load capacitance so current-limited supplies do not shut down.
- Reverse voltage protection — The load is disconnected if reverse polarity is applied to the input.
- Switchable outputs — An external switch, open-collector closure or RDL remote control can activate the outputs.
- Power indication — A blue LED shows when the outputs are active.
