What is the RDL SF-NP16E?
The RDL SF-NP16E is a PoE+ powered Dante amplifier that converts one Dante channel to a 16 W 70 V or 100 V constant-voltage output. It powers distributed ceiling or wall speakers directly from a network switch, with no special software needed for setup. Port-protect circuitry limits supply current so the PoE+ switch port does not shut down under heavy program material. It is a compact amplifier for networked paging and background music zones in offices, schools and public spaces.
How does it work?

The SF-NP16E converts one Dante network audio channel to a 70 V or 100 V output that delivers 16 W for a network level of 0 dBFS. It operates from a Class 4 IEEE 802.3at PoE+ switch port, or from an external 24 Vdc supply at 1000 mA. If a PoE+ device draws excessive power, the switch port can shut off; the SF-NP16E monitors amplifier power and limits current to prevent that, even during feedback or square-wave conditions. A red rear-panel PORT PROTECT LED flashes whenever the amplifier reduces power consumption to protect the port. An internal VCA sets output level from an external 10 kΩ potentiometer or 0 to 10 Vdc on a detachable terminal block, and gain stays at maximum when the VCA input is not connected. RDL remote level controls such as the RDL D-RLC10, RDL D-RLC10M or RDL D-RLC3 give users noise-free volume adjustment. The high-efficiency Class D output stage produces minimal heat, and the module includes thermal and output short-circuit protection. A green front LED confirms Dante sync, and a yellow LED indicates when the output is muted. The SYSFLEX enclosure meets UL 2043 plenum rating and mounts with the SF-RA1 SysFlex rack adapter or SF-UCB2 under-counter bracket pair; for local power RDL recommends the PS-24KX.
What are the key features?
- 16 W constant-voltage output — Drives 70 V or 100 V speaker lines directly from a Dante channel.
- PoE+ powered — Runs from a Class 4 IEEE 802.3at switch port, or from 24 Vdc.
- PoE+ port protection — Limits supply current to keep the switch port from shutting down.
- Remote VCA level control — Accepts a 10 kΩ pot or 0 to 10 Vdc and works with RDL remote level controls.
- Selectable sample rates — Supports Dante at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz.
- Plenum-rated SYSFLEX enclosure — UL 2043 plenum rated, with Class D efficiency and thermal protection.
Where is it typically used?
- Commercial meeting space
- Conference room
- Training room
- Government space
- House of worship
- Multi-purpose room

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the SF-NP16E run entirely on PoE+?
Yes. It operates from a Class 4 IEEE 802.3at PoE+ switch port. It can also run from an external 24 Vdc supply at 1000 mA.
Will it trip my PoE+ switch port?
The SF-NP16E monitors amplifier power and limits current to protect the port from shutting down, and a red PORT PROTECT LED flashes when it does.
Does it need software to configure?
No. RDL states special software is not required for module setup; it is routed like any Dante device.
How do users adjust volume?
Connect a 10 kΩ pot, 0 to 10 Vdc, or an RDL remote such as the RDL D-RLC10 to the VCA terminal block.
Can it be installed above a ceiling?
The enclosure carries a UL 2043 plenum rating per RDL.
How is it mounted?
Use the SF-RA1 SysFlex rack adapter for racks or the SF-UCB2 under-counter brackets for tables and counters.
