What is the RDL RU-BNFP?
The RDL RU-BNFP is a bi-directional Format-A Dante interface that links RDL twisted-pair Format-A senders and receivers to a Dante audio network. It converts three Format-A input pairs plus a balanced or unbalanced aux line input to four Dante channels, and converts four Dante channels to three Format-A pairs plus a balanced aux output. It combines the functions of the RDL RU-FN and RU-NFD in one Rack-Up module, and adds PoE for normal or hot-standby operation.
How does it work?

Format-A carries audio and power to RDL senders and receivers over standard CATx cable with RJ45 connections, and each sender or receiver can sit near the module or several thousand feet away. On the receive side, three Dante channels feed Format-A pairs A, B and C, which are distributed to three rear-panel RJ45 output jacks, and a fourth channel feeds a +4 dBu balanced aux output. Each Format-A output jack provides up to 200 mA to connected receivers, which can be daisy-chained or home-run, while higher-current receivers such as D-PSP1A powered speakers need their own jack. On the send side, the Format-A input jack converts pairs A, B and C to Dante, the aux line input has a front-panel gain control with a dual-LED VU meter, and the input jack supplies up to 200 mA to connected senders. Front-panel signal LEDs show audio on every Format-A and Dante channel, so levels can be checked without a networked computer. Each Format-A RJ45 connector is protected by its own auto-resetting fuse with a power LED, which helps identify wiring faults. The RU-BNFP runs on PoE (Class 0, IEEE 802.3af), which powers the module, the Format-A input and the primary output jack; adding an external 24 Vdc supply powers receivers on all three outputs, and the unit fails over to PoE if that supply is lost. RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or RDL PS-24AX (international) supply, and Format-A endpoints such as the D-TPS1A mic sender and D-TPR1A XLR receiver complete the system. The all-metal Rack-Up enclosure stands free, surface mounts with the RU-SMA1 mounting plate, or rack mounts with the RU-HRA1 rack mount.
What are the key features?
- Bi-directional Format-A to Dante — Sends three Format-A pairs plus aux to Dante and returns four Dante channels to Format-A and aux.
- Three Format-A output jacks — Distributes pairs A, B and C to three RJ45 jacks for daisy-chain or home-run wiring.
- Powers Format-A endpoints — Each Format-A jack supplies up to 200 mA to connected senders or receivers.
- Aux line I/O — A balanced or unbalanced aux input with gain control and a +4 dBu balanced aux output handle local sources.
- Signal and power LEDs — Per-channel signal LEDs and per-jack power LEDs simplify setup and fault finding.
- Auto-resetting fuses — Each Format-A RJ45 power feed is individually protected.
- PoE with hot standby — Runs on PoE alone or with an external 24 Vdc supply and automatic failover.
- 24-bit Dante — Supports 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz at 24 bits with -18 dBFS aligned to +4 dBu.
- Rack-Up form factor — Free-standing, surface or rack mounting with RDL Rack-Up accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is RDL Format-A?
Format-A is RDL's twisted-pair system that carries up to three audio pairs plus power over CATx cable with RJ45 connectors, linking senders and receivers to equipment up to several thousand feet away.
How is it powered?
By PoE Class 0 (IEEE 802.3af), an external 24 Vdc supply, or both. PoE powers the module, the Format-A input and the primary output jack; an external supply powers all three outputs.
How much power can each Format-A jack supply?
Up to 200 mA per jack. Higher-current receivers such as D-PSP1A powered Decora speakers should be connected to their own output jack.
Can I adjust the aux input level?
Yes. The aux input has a front-panel gain control with a dual-LED VU meter and accepts balanced or unbalanced line-level sources.
How is it mounted?
It is a Rack-Up module that can stand free, mount to a surface with the RU-SMA1 or RU-BR1, or mount in a rack with the RU-HRA1.
