What is the RDL RU-ASX4DR?

The RDL RU-ASX4DR is a remote-controlled 4x1 stereo audio selector with an internal stereo VCA for output level control. It switches four balanced or unbalanced stereo line-level sources to one stereo output using silent solid-state switching. Source selection and level can be controlled from one or more locations using RDL remote controls or OEM equipment. It is a simple source and volume control solution for conference rooms, training rooms and multi-purpose spaces.

How does it work?

Each of the four stereo inputs accepts a balanced or unbalanced signal and has a rear-panel screwdriver-adjustable gain trimmer. Input levels from -15 dBV to +8 dBu can be set to the proper operating level using a stereo dual-LED VU meter, with a maximum input level of +25 dBu. Identical dual-LED VU meters on the front and rear panels are calibrated to read +4 dBu at the balanced output. Output level is set by a remote 10 kΩ linear pot or 0 to 10 Vdc, with a 96 dB attenuation range in 0.5 dB steps using noiseless zero-crossing digital attenuators. Sources are selected with a sequential control such as the RDL D-RCS4, a momentary control such as the RDL D-RC4M, or an open-collector closure to ground. Level control is compatible with RDL rotary controls including the RDL D-RLC10, RDL D-RLC10M and RDL D-RLC3. When a source is selected, a 25 mA open-collector output is available to control other equipment, and a front-panel LED shows the selected source. Rear-panel DIP switches set the VCA activity LED behavior and the remote control mode. Power is 24 Vdc at 175 mA on a detachable terminal block, with RDL recommending the PS-24AX supply; rack-mount it with the RU-HRA1 or RC-1UR universal rack chassis.
