What is the RDL FP-MX3R?
The RDL FP-MX3R is a 3-channel line-level audio mixer whose input levels are adjusted from an RDL wall-mounted remote control. Audio stays at the equipment location while users adjust the mix over standard twisted pair cable, using VCA circuits for each input. Balanced and unbalanced outputs, including two RCA outputs for a stereo amplifier, make it simple to integrate with commercial amplifiers. It is a practical choice for meeting rooms, training rooms and multi-purpose spaces where users need simple source level control.
How does it work?
Each of the three inputs accepts balanced or unbalanced line-level audio through a detachable terminal block, and each has a front-panel INPUT GAIN trimmer. Inputs are normally set to produce +4 dBu on the dual-LED VU meter with the remote at maximum, which leaves more than 18 dB of headroom. The mono mix is available on a balanced terminal block and on two unbalanced RCA jacks intended to feed the stereo input of a power amplifier. RDL remote controls connect to the light-blue RJ45 control port with standard twisted pair cable, and the mixer powers the remote. A two-channel remote such as the RDL D-RC2 or a three-channel remote such as the RDL D-RC3 can be used; with a two-channel remote, input 3 stays at a fixed level for paging or music, or can be disabled. If the remote cable is disconnected, the mixer output mutes. An AUDIO LED and two open-collector AUDIO DETECT outputs signal when audio is present, so they can switch amplifiers on or mute amplifiers equipped for remote muting. The detector outputs stay triggered for 10 minutes after audio stops, or 20 minutes with a ground jumper, which helps save energy in unused rooms. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.

Which remote controls work with the FP-MX3R?
RDL lists the D-RC2, D-RC2M, D-RC3, D-RC3M, DS-RC2, DS-RC2M and DS-RC3 remote controls. Two- and three-channel remotes are supported.
What happens if I use a two-channel remote?
Input 3 is not remotely controlled. It can stay active at the level set by its INPUT GAIN trimmer, typically for paging or music, or be disabled by a switch during installation.
Is the power supply included?
No. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included. The unit draws 24 Vdc at 120 mA plus any connected control output loads.
Can it switch power amplifiers on and off?
Yes. The open-collector AUDIO DETECT outputs switch when audio is above a threshold 35 dB below +4 dBu and can enable or mute amplifiers.
How is it mounted?
RDL lists the FP-HRA 10.4" rack mount, FP-RRA 19" rack adapter, FP-RRAH hinged adapter, FP-RRB1 rear rail kit and DRA-35F DIN rail adapter as mounting accessories.
