RDL AV-HK1X – Balanced XLR Hum Killer Isolation Transformer
What is the RDL AV-HK1X?
The RDL AV-HK1X is a mono transformer isolation module with XLR input and output that removes ground-loop hum from balanced audio lines. It connects a mixer, preamplifier or other pro audio source to a grounded amplifier or mixer input.
How does it work?
A studio-quality audio transformer provides galvanic isolation between the gold-contact XLR jacks at +4 dBu nominal level. The input pin 1 shield is isolated from the case and output ground at audio frequencies, but still provides an RF ground return to preserve immunity to radio interference. Response is 20 Hz to 50 kHz (±0.1 dB) with THD+N of 0.002% at 1 kHz. The rugged field case suits portable use or permanent installation; for unbalanced stereo sources, see the AV-HK1.
What are the key features?
- Balanced XLR connections — Gold-contact XLR jacks fit professional line-level equipment.
- Studio-quality transformer — Galvanic isolation breaks ground loops with very low distortion.
- RF ground return — The input shield keeps an RF return path to protect against radio interference.
- Wide response — 20 Hz to 50 kHz (±0.1 dB) response preserves full audio bandwidth.
- Portable or permanent — The rugged field case works for portable setups and fixed installations.
