RDL AV-HK1 – Portable Stereo Hum Killer Audio Isolation Module
What is the RDL AV-HK1?
The RDL AV-HK1 Hum Killer is a stereo transformer isolation module that eliminates ground-loop hum between consumer audio sources and grounded sound systems. Its rugged field case suits portable use, and an included bracket allows surface mounting in fixed AV installations.
How does it work?
A laptop, CD player or other unbalanced -10 dBV source connects to the gold-plated phono INPUT jacks, and the OUTPUT jacks feed the grounded amplifier or mixer. Each input shield is electrically isolated from the case and from the output ground, breaking the ground loop that causes hum. Two adapter cables from the RDL AV-AC2 cable kit are included for sources that use stereo mini-plugs or mini-jacks. RDL specifies 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB) frequency response and 0.05% THD+N at 1 kHz.
What are the key features?
- Stereo galvanic isolation — Transformer coupling isolates both channels of an unbalanced stereo source from the system ground.
- Ground-loop hum elimination — Isolated input shields break the ground path between the source and the grounded amplifier or mixer.
- Gold-plated phono jacks — Inputs and outputs use gold-plated phono jacks for reliable consumer-format connections.
- Mini-jack adapter cables included — Two dual phono to stereo mini-plug and mini-jack cables connect portable devices without extra adapters.
- Portable or surface mounted — The rugged field case travels with presenters, and the included bracket secures it in fixed installations.
