Product Overview

The Poly Rove B2 DECT base station is the SIP core of a Poly Rove cordless voice system, registering up to 20 Rove handsets and carrying up to 20 concurrent calls in dual-cell mode. It is the required infrastructure piece: handsets alone will not place a call until they are registered to a base such as this one. Facilities and IT teams deploy the B2 to cover warehouses, hospital wings, hotel floors, and campus buildings where staff move constantly and a desk phone cannot follow them. The unit mounts on a wall or desk, draws Power over Ethernet from an existing switch, and reaches roughly 5,000 sq ft as a single cell or 15,000 sq ft as a dual-cell pair.

Product Description

Poly built the Rove B2 as the mid-tier base in the Rove DECT family, sitting between the single-cell B1 and the multi-cell Poly Rove B4 base station. Where the B4 scales to hundreds of bases across a campus, the B2 is sized for a single building or a distinct zone within one: a distribution center floor, an outpatient clinic, a hotel's guest services wing. It operates in the 1920-1930 MHz DECT band used in North America, which sits outside the crowded 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi spectrum, so voice traffic does not contend with the wireless data network an integrator has already commissioned.

Coverage is the first design decision. A single-cell B2 delivers up to 50 m (164 ft) indoors and up to 300 m (984 ft) outdoors, which translates to roughly 5,000 sq ft of usable indoor coverage. Configuring two B2 units as a dual-cell pair extends that to about 15,000 sq ft and raises concurrent call capacity from 10 to 20. For buildings with dense racking, fire-rated walls, or long corridors that break line of sight, add a Poly Rove R8 DECT repeater to fill coverage holes without pulling another network drop. DECT encryption is maintained end to end, including through repeaters, which is why the platform is specified in healthcare and government spaces where call privacy is a compliance requirement rather than a preference.

Handsets are ordered separately and are the second half of the system. Pair the B2 with the Poly Rove 30 rugged DECT handset for general staff, or the Poly Rove 40 DECT handset where Bluetooth headset support and a dedicated emergency key are needed for lone workers. Both are IP65 rated and drop proof to 6.6 ft. Physical installation is straightforward for an integrator: a 10/100 Ethernet port carries both SIP signaling and PoE from the switch, a wall mounting kit and desk stand ship in the box, and an external 5V 2A universal AC adapter is included for closets where PoE is unavailable. Where users stay at a desk, the same SIP platform pairs with wired endpoints such as the Poly Edge E450 IP desk phone.

Key Features

  • Registers Up to 20 Handsets — One B2 base supports up to 20 Poly Rove cordless handsets, so a single unit can cover an entire shift roster without a second controller.
  • Up to 20 Concurrent Calls — A dual-cell B2 deployment carries 20 simultaneous calls, or 10 when running as a single cell, giving planners a clear capacity figure per zone.
  • Single-Cell and Dual-Cell Operation — The same hardware covers roughly 5,000 sq ft alone or about 15,000 sq ft when paired, so coverage can grow without replacing the base.
  • 1920-1930 MHz DECT Band — Operating in the North American DECT band keeps cordless voice off the Wi-Fi spectrum and away from interference from the data network.
  • Power over Ethernet — The base draws power from a PoE switch through the same cable that carries SIP traffic, eliminating a separate outlet at the mounting point.
  • DECT End-to-End Encryption — Calls stay encrypted across the air interface, including in repeater mode, which supports privacy requirements in healthcare and government spaces.
  • R8 Repeater Support — Poly Rove R8 repeaters extend coverage into stairwells, cold storage, and outbuildings without adding another network drop.
  • Wall or Desk Mounting — A wall mounting kit and desk stand ship in the box so the base can be positioned for coverage rather than for convenience.
  • Dual Power Options — An external 5V 2A universal AC adapter is included as an alternative where the nearest switch does not supply PoE.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need handsets in addition to the Rove B2 base station?
Yes. The B2 is the base station only and does not include a handset. A Rove system requires at least one base and one handset; ordering handsets without a base leaves you with hardware that cannot register to your SIP platform or place a call. Budget one B2 per coverage zone and one Poly Rove 30 or Rove 40 handset per user.

How many handsets and calls does one B2 support?
One B2 registers up to 20 Poly Rove handsets. Concurrent call capacity is up to 10 when the base runs as a single cell and up to 20 when two units are configured as a dual-cell pair.

How much area does a single B2 cover?
A single-cell B2 covers approximately 5,000 sq ft indoors, with a stated range of up to 50 m (164 ft) indoors and up to 300 m (984 ft) outdoors. A dual-cell configuration extends coverage to roughly 15,000 sq ft. Racking, fire doors, and concrete cores reduce real-world range, so plan a site survey before finalizing base placement.

Can I extend coverage without adding another base?
Yes. The Poly Rove R8 DECT repeater relays between the base and handsets to fill dead spots such as stairwells, loading docks, and cold storage. Repeaters do not require a network drop and maintain DECT encryption while in repeater mode.

How is the base powered and cabled during installation?
A single 10/100 Ethernet run carries SIP traffic and Power over Ethernet from the switch, which is the preferred method for wall-mounted installs. An external 5V 2A universal AC adapter ships in the box for locations served by a non-PoE switch.

Will DECT interfere with our wireless network?
No. The B2 operates in the 1920-1930 MHz DECT band, which is separate from the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands used by Wi-Fi. Cordless voice and wireless data coexist without competing for the same channels.

Is the system suitable for hospitals and government facilities?
DECT encryption is maintained end to end, including through repeaters, and the handsets carry IP65 dust and water resistance with Microban antimicrobial protection on their surfaces. Those characteristics are why the platform is commonly specified for clinical corridors, government spaces, and industrial floors.

What warranty and support are included?
The base station carries the Poly standard one-year limited warranty. Contact Creation Networks for extended service coverage, volume pricing on multi-base deployments, or help sizing base and repeater counts for your floor plan.
