Product Overview
The Meyer Sound VLFC Very Low Frequency Control Element is a self-powered infrasonic subwoofer engineered to reproduce the lowest octave of low-frequency content at high continuous output with very low distortion. Operating from 13 Hz to 35 Hz, this dual 18-inch arrayable subwoofer extends a system's response below the 20 Hz floor of conventional touring subwoofers, making it a specialist low frequency control element for large-scale live sound, immersive audio, and themed-entertainment installations. Because amplification, signal processing, and RMS remote monitoring are integrated, the VLFC deploys without external amplifier racks or crossover calibration.
Product Description

The VLFC houses two 18-inch long-excursion, low-resonance cone drivers in a premium multi-ply birch enclosure, powered by a two-channel Class AB/H amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages rated at 5,600 W peak. By concentrating energy into the narrow 13–30 Hz band, this self-powered arrayable subwoofer generates the extreme variations in air pressure required for sub-bass effects and tactile low-end that standard subwoofers cannot deliver. It is designed to complement Meyer Sound's 750-LFC and larger LFC elements in the lowest octaves, and integrates with full-range systems such as the PANTHER line array. For commercial cinema, the VLFC pairs with the X-1100C cinema subwoofer to achieve full SMPTE-compliant subsonic extension. System design is supported in MAPP 3D, and tuning is managed through Galileo GALAXY processing, while the included RMS module reports operating parameters to a host computer for commercial deployment and long-term monitoring.
Key Features
- Infrasonic 13–35 Hz operating range — Reproduces sub-audible content below the limit of conventional subwoofers for tactile, full-bandwidth low end.
- Self-powered design — Integrated amplifier and processing remove the need for external amp racks, long speaker runs, or crossover calibration.
- Dual 18-inch low-resonance drivers — Two long-excursion cone drivers deliver high continuous output with very low distortion.
- 5,600 W peak Class AB/H amplification — Complementary MOSFET output stages maintain clean transients at extreme operating levels.
- RMS remote monitoring standard — Reports amplifier and driver parameters to Compass software for proactive system management.
- Arrayable, 360° coverage — Single-unit omnidirectional output that can be configured into directional low-frequency arrays.
- Galileo GALAXY and MAPP 3D support — Predictable system design and processing integration with other Meyer Sound loudspeakers.
Typical Applications
- Auditorium — Adds subsonic extension for large-scale performance and presentation spaces.
- House of worship — Delivers controlled, high-output low end for large worship auditoriums and broadcast-grade services.
- Multi-purpose room — Supports immersive and concert reproduction in flexible large-format venues.
- Broadcast studio — Provides reference low-frequency reproduction for effects and post-production monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the VLFC require an external amplifier?
No. The VLFC is self-powered, with a two-channel Class AB/H amplifier, DSP, and RMS monitoring integrated into the cabinet. It requires only AC power (208–235 V AC via powerCON 32) and a balanced audio feed.
How does it integrate into an existing Meyer Sound system?
The VLFC is designed to extend the low end of full-range and LFC-based systems. It is tuned and time-aligned in Galileo GALAXY processing and modeled in MAPP 3D, and pairs with LFC subwoofers such as the 750-LFC and with PANTHER or LEOPARD arrays.
What is required for installation and rigging?
The cabinet ships with integrated rigging hardware and supports ground-stacked or flown low-frequency arrays. Because of its 298–332 lb weight, structural rigging review and Meyer Sound QuickFly hardware are recommended for flown deployments.
What power distribution does it use for larger systems?
Multiple VLFC and 1100-LFC units can be powered and signal-fed through Meyer Sound MDM-5000 distribution modules, which route AC power, balanced audio, and RMS signals to the loudspeakers.
What warranty applies?
The VLFC is covered under Meyer Sound's standard product warranty. Contact Creation Networks for current warranty terms and commercial AV support.
