Product Overview
The Meyer Sound X-400C is a compact, self-powered cinema subwoofer that boosts low-frequency headroom in cinema applications and other fixed installations. Built around a single 18-inch long-excursion driver, it reproduces clean, punchy transients down to 20 Hz with a 127.5 dB linear peak SPL and excellent phase coherence. It offers sonic characteristics similar to the larger X-800C in a more compact cabinet that can be installed singly or as multiple units. It is intended for motion picture theaters, residential cinema, and production and postproduction facilities.
Product Description

The X-400C comprises a single 18-inch low-frequency, long-excursion cone driver in an optimally tuned, vented cabinet powered by a single-channel amplifier producing 900 W peak. Onboard processing includes driver protection, low-pass filtering, and correction filters for flat phase and frequency response, and a switchable -7.5 dB input pad reduces upstream noise when the unit is close to listeners. The Intelligent AC power supply provides automatic voltage selection, EMI filtering, soft turn-on, and surge suppression. It integrates with ACHERON screen channel loudspeakers such as the ACHERON-100 and HMS surround loudspeakers, and complements the higher-output X-800C cinema subwoofer in larger rooms. Additional Meyer Sound cinema products are available in the Meyer Sound collection. An optional grille frame with black cloth is available, and the optional RMS remote monitoring system reports loudspeaker parameters to a computer running Compass control software.

Competitor Comparison
| Criterion | Meyer Sound X-400C | JBL 4642A |
| Amplification | The X-400C is self-powered with an integral single-channel amplifier and onboard correction filters. | The JBL 4642A is a passive cinema subwoofer that requires an external amplifier and processor. |
| Driver Configuration | It uses a single 18-inch long-excursion driver in a compact tuned, vented cabinet. | The 4642A also uses a single 18-inch driver but in a larger passive enclosure. |
| Onboard Processing | The X-400C includes built-in low-pass and correction filters and a switchable input pad. | The 4642A relies on external DSP and amplifier settings configured by the installer. |
| Installation | The self-powered design simplifies installation by removing external amplifier and cabling variables. | A passive design requires sizing and wiring an external amplifier and rack space. |
| Monitoring | An optional RMS remote monitoring system reports operating parameters to a host computer. | The 4642A has no integrated remote monitoring of amplifier parameters. |
| Footprint | Its compact cabinet supports single or multiple-unit installation where space is limited. | The 4642A enclosure is larger, requiring more installation space per cabinet. |
Frequently Asked Questions
