What is the Kramer PT-3UC active USB extender?
The Kramer PT-3UC is an active USB 3.2 extender that lengthens the USB-C cable run between a host and a device by reclocking and equalizing the USB signal. Placed in the signal path, it removes the dropouts and digital noise (sparkles) that long USB cables can introduce. It supports 10Gbps USB 3.2 with video Alt Mode, which makes it useful at conference tables and lecterns where a laptop's USB-C connection needs a little more reach.
How does the Kramer PT-3UC work?
The PT-3UC sits between two USB cables and buffers the incoming and outgoing signal, regenerating it so the far device sees a clean connection. It supports up to 10Gbps over a total range of 4m: 2m from the host to the PT-3UC and 2m from the PT-3UC to the device.
It is true plug and play with no driver, and it is backward compatible with USB 3.0, 2.0 and 1.1 devices. Video Alt Mode is supported, so USB-C video sources can pass through. External power can be supplied through a micro-USB connector, and the unit can deliver up to 2.5A (12.5W) of output power while consuming 1W or less itself.
