Product Overview

The Furman F1000-UPS is an AV battery backup UPS engineered for sensitive audio/video components in commercial and residential installations. Designed as a rack-mount uninterruptible power supply for AV systems, it combines 1000VA of battery backup with Furman power conditioning and voltage regulation in a single chassis. This makes it suited to integrators who need an AV-grade UPS that protects control systems, media servers, and lamp-based displays during a power outage. Unlike repurposed IT-closet UPS units, the F1000-UPS pairs runtime with the surge and noise filtration that source components and projectors require.

Product Description

Furman F1000-UPS rack-mount AV battery backup and power conditioner front panel

The F1000-UPS was created from the ground up for the demands of audio, video, broadcast, and control systems rather than data centers. It delivers 1000VA / 600W of battery backup to maintain critical data and allow an orderly shutdown when utility power fails, while Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) provides non-sacrificial AC surge suppression that does not degrade over time. Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) removes AC line noise across a wide frequency range, which matters for high-definition displays and DLP projectors where noise can mask image detail.

Automatic voltage regulation holds output near 120V during brownouts and overvoltage swings, and Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) disconnects connected equipment under sustained overvoltage conditions. Two independently controllable AC outlet banks separate critical loads from non-critical loads, and dual learning IR blasters plus an RS-232 interface let the unit issue shutdown commands to remote components such as projectors. For higher-current loads or larger racks, an integrator may step up to the Furman F1500-UPS uninterruptible power supply, or pair the F1000-UPS with a sequenced conditioner such as the Furman CN-2400S Smart Sequencer for staged rack power-up. Note that high-current devices like power amplifiers and powered subwoofers are not recommended on the F1000-UPS, since they drain the battery quickly and can introduce current compression through the inverter and AVR stages.

Key Features

  • 1000VA Battery Backup — The unit supplies 1000VA / 600W of backup power to maintain critical data and allow an orderly shutdown during an outage.
  • Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) — Non-sacrificial surge suppression protects connected equipment without wearing out, providing virtually maintenance-free operation.
  • Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) — Advanced AC noise filtration preserves wide dynamic range and image clarity for sensitive video and projection equipment.
  • Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) — The F1000-UPS disconnects equipment under sustained overvoltage conditions to prevent damage.
  • Automatic Voltage Regulation — AVR holds output at a consistent 120V (±5% to ±10%) during brownouts and voltage fluctuations.
  • Dual Independent Outlet Banks — Two separately managed AC banks let installers separate critical loads from non-critical loads.
  • RS-232 and USB Control — Open-source RS-232 programming and a USB interface allow integration with existing automation and control systems.
  • Dual Learning IR Blasters — Programmable IR control issues safe shutdown commands to remote components such as projectors.
  • Rack-Mount Ready — Optional rack ears are included for installation in a standard equipment rack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment is the F1000-UPS designed to back up?
It is intended for sensitive, lower-current AV components such as satellite receivers, cable boxes, digital video recorders, media servers, gaming consoles, lamp-based video displays, and control systems. Furman does not recommend connecting power amplifiers, powered subwoofers, or other high-current loads, as they drain the battery quickly.
How does it install in an equipment rack?
The F1000-UPS occupies a 2U footprint and ships with optional rack ears for mounting in a standard 19-inch equipment rack alongside other AV gear.
How does it integrate with an AV control system?
The unit provides an open-source RS-232 interface and USB port, plus dual learning IR blasters, so it can be programmed into an existing automation system to manage two independent outlet banks and trigger orderly shutdown of remote components.
Does it protect against surges and voltage problems as well as outages?
Yes. Beyond battery backup, it includes non-sacrificial SMP surge suppression, LiFT noise filtration, automatic voltage regulation, and Extreme Voltage Shutdown for sustained overvoltage events.
What is the runtime during an outage?
UPS backup time is rated at 3 minutes at full load; lighter loads run longer. Furman publishes approximate guideline runtimes such as roughly 45 minutes for a single satellite receiver, intended to allow an orderly shutdown rather than continuous operation.
