Product Description
The Extron NAV E 401 D is a 1G Pro AV-over-IP encoder built into a decorator-style wallplate, engineered to stream HDMI video, audio, and Ethernet over standard 1 Gbps networks. This white-faceplate model is the AV-over-IP encoder of choice for installations where the source device sits at the wall and a discreet, in-wall enclosure is required to blend with light-colored interiors. Using Extron's patented PURE3 codec, the NAV E 401 D delivers visually lossless video at resolutions up to 4K/60 with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and ultra-low latency over commercial-grade 1000Base-T copper infrastructure.
As a 1G HDMI Ethernet encoder, the NAV E 401 D is designed for corporate video distribution, command and control rooms, higher education, and training environments. It is fully interoperable with 10 Gbps NAV endpoints, so 1 Gbps streams can be decoded by 10 Gbps decoders within a mixed deployment. A built-in LAN expansion port lets IP-enabled displays, cameras, and smart TVs share the same cable as the AV stream, reducing cabling in remote locations. PoE+ support means the encoder can draw power directly from a compliant network switch or injector, eliminating the local power supply at the wall.

This page covers the Decorator White finish. A matching NAV E 401 D in Decorator Black is also available. For a 1G HDMI encoder without the Ethernet expansion port, see the NAV E 201 D in Decorator White or Decorator Black. Key Features
- PURE3 codec encoding — Extron's patented, wavelet-based PURE3 compression streams visually lossless 4K/60 4:4:4 video at efficient bit rates with ultra-low latency and built-in error concealment, tolerating the bursty traffic found on converged networks.
- HDMI 2.0 input and loop-out — Accepts HDMI 2.0 signals at resolutions up to 4K/60 (4096 x 2160) with 4:4:4 chroma sampling, and provides a local HDMI loop-out for monitoring or a local display without a separate distribution amplifier.
- Ethernet LAN expansion — A built-in 1 Gbps RJ-45 expansion port lets IP-enabled displays, cameras, and smart TVs connect to the LAN over the same cable as the AV stream, saving cabling cost at remote endpoints.
- 10 Gbps NAV interoperability — 1 Gbps streams from this encoder can be decoded by 10 Gbps NAV decoders, supporting scalable mixed 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps deployments across an enterprise or campus.
- PoE+ powered — Receives power directly from a PoE+ compliant network switch or injector, eliminating the need for a local power supply at the wallplate.
- AES67 audio over IP — Transmits and receives AES67 audio streams for integration with Extron DMP Plus DSPs and other IP-enabled audio components.
- HDCP 2.3 compliance — Supports transmission of HDCP 2.3 content-protected UHD media, with Key Minder maintaining continuous HDCP encryption and HDCP visual confirmation for non-compliant displays.
- Enterprise security — Includes 802.1X port-based network access control, SRTP stream encryption, a certified FIPS 140-2 cryptographic module, and Microsoft Active Directory support.
- Decorator-style wallplate — Mounts in an included three-gang in-wall enclosure with a white decorator faceplate for discreet installation near the source.
- Pro Series control — A built-in RS-232 and IR Pro Series control port extends Extron Pro Series control beyond the control processor, with NAVigator System Manager providing centralized management and monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the NAV E 401 D and the NAV E 201 D?
Both are 1G PURE3 HDMI encoders in a decorator wallplate. The NAV E 401 D adds a built-in Ethernet LAN expansion port, allowing IP-enabled devices to share the AV cable. The NAV E 201 D does not include the Ethernet expansion port.
Does the NAV E 401 D work with 10 Gbps NAV decoders?
Yes. The NAV platform is interoperable across 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps endpoints, so streams from this 1 Gbps encoder can be decoded by 10 Gbps NAV decoders in a mixed system.
How is the encoder powered?
It can be powered over the network with PoE+ from a compliant switch or injector, or with the included external Extron Everlast 100-240 VAC power supply.
What network infrastructure does it require?
A 1 Gbps (1000Base-T) Ethernet network using CAT 5e or CAT 6 cabling terminated with RJ-45, with runs up to 328 ft (100 m). A NAVigator System Manager is required for centralized management of NAV deployments.
Is the NAV E 401 D suitable for secure or government environments?
Yes. It supports 802.1X network access control, SRTP stream encryption, a certified FIPS 140-2 cryptographic module, and Active Directory. A DoDIN APL approved version and a TAA compliant version are available from Extron on request.
What warranty and support are included?
The included Extron Everlast power supply carries a 7-year parts and labor warranty. For product support, contact Creation Networks through creationnetworks.net.
